  • Michael Kopech blows three-run lead in eighth
Michael Kopech gave up three runs in the eighth to take a blown save Monday in the loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Look, we’re not totally blaming Pedro Grifol for tonight’s loss, but that stuff like this keeps happening to the White Sox hardly seems like a coincidence. Grifol left his starter in to begin the eighth in a 4-0 game tonight, only to pull him immediately after a leadoff homer. Kopech, the White Sox’s primary closer, then came in with no outs in the eighth and struggled in retiring just two of the eight batters he faced. That made it a tie game going into the ninth, and Jordan Leasure, the top fallback to Kopech, wound up surrendering a walkoff grand slam, of all things. Everything is a disaster with the White Sox now, and while Kopech still offers value for teams desperate for saves, it’s hard to argue for him in shallow leagues, especially with the way Grifol is treating him. • Earns 10th save
Megill earned a save against the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Entering with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning, Megill allowed a two-out single to Spencer Horwitz but retired Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the next pitch to secure his 10th save of the season. Megill has posted four straight scoreless appearances and is now 10-for-11 in save chances this season. He owns a 2.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB and should continue to be the primary closer in Milwaukee until Devin Williams (back) returns from the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:14 pm
  • Earns first save
Tonkin earned a save against the Royals on Monday, walking one and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Tonkin was called upon to protect a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning and worked around a walk to secure his first save of the season and second of his career. Usual closer Clay Holmes pitched three times in the past four days, so it was a rare appearance in the role for Tonkin. He now owns a 2.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB ratio in 29.1 combined innings pitched for the Twins, Mets and Yankees in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:10 pm
  • Quality start in loss
Hudson (2-8) took the loss Monday against the Twins, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out one.

Advice: Despite suffering his eighth loss, Hudson earned his fourth quality start of the season, marking the third in his last four appearances. Over those four outings, the Colorado right-hander has tossed a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB in 24 innings. Hudson now sports a 4.87 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 36:35 K:BB in 68.1 total innings this season. The 29-year-old is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Pirates at home this weekend. • Louie Varland to make spot start for Twins
The Twins will recall Louie Varland to make a spot start Tuesday against the Rockies.

Advice: Everyone is getting an extra day for the Twins. Varland should be sent down Tuesday’s game no matter how well he performs, but it’s a big game for him as far as whether he’ll be trusted next time the Twins need a starting pitcher for an extended period. Diego Castillo is expected to be sent down to make room for Varland on the roster. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:35 pm
