    • Jeff Keppinger delivered a walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 win over the Marlins in 11 innings on Friday.
Advice: Keppinger sneaked it through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded to win it. The veteran infielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI on the night and is hitting .343 (11-for-32) over his last nine games. The recent hot streak has only pulled his batting average up to .210 for the year, but we expect it to continue to rise in the days ahead.

    • Emilio Bonifacio swatted his second home run of the season in Saturday's loss to the Orioles.
Advice: It was a solo shot. While fantasy owners will take the power, Bonifacio has been a disappointment otherwise this year. The 28-year-old is hitting just .212 with a .246 on-base percentage in 41 games and has only stolen four bases.

    • Chase d'Arnaud (thumb) will move his rehab assignment Saturday to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Advice: D'Arnaud has been out all season after undergoing surgery in March to repair a partially torn ligament in his thumb. The Pirates are expected to send him to the minors when he's healthy enough to return.

    • Tim Lincecum surrendered four runs in seven innings Friday in a loss to the Rockies.
Advice: It was all Michael Cuddyer's fault; he doubled in the first two runs and homered for the fourth. He even scored the third after reaching base on a strikeout/wild pitch in the fourth. Lincecum did a bang-up job against everyone else, finishing with eight strikeouts and two walks.

    • Rangers claimed OF Joe Benson off waivers from the Twins; assigned him to Double-A Frisco.
Advice: Benson struggled mightily at Triple-A Rochester this season, batting just .192 with one home run in 42 games. The Twins no longer viewed Benson as worthy of a 40-man roster spot and needed to clear room for Saturday's starter P.J. Walters.

    • Salvador Perez (hip) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.
Advice: Perez suffered a deep right hip bruise Monday when he slid into a barrier while attempting to catch a foul ball, but fortunately an MRI ruled out any structural damage. It shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

    • Salvador Perez (hip) is not in the Royals' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Astros.

    • Salvador Perez has been diagnosed with a deep right hip bruise and is considered day-to-day.

    • Salvador Perez left Monday's game with a right hip injury.
Advice: Perez suffered the injury when he bumped into post at the Astros' dugout while chasing a foul popup. There's no word on the severity of the ailment, but the Royals should provide an update after the game. George Kottaras took Perez's spot behind the plate.

    • Yankees placed OF Curtis Granderson on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured fifth metacarpal of his left hand.
Advice: Granderson suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning of Friday night's game. It's a troubling development for the Yankees, who will now be forced to give extended playing time to Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch. Granderson is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks.

    • Curtis Granderson (fractured knuckle) will miss a minimum of four weeks.
Advice: Granderson sustained the injury when he was hit by a pitch during the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Rays. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who will turn back to Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch to carry the load while Granderson is sidelined.

    • Curtis Granderson went 3-for-3 with his first home run of the season, but the Yankees lost to the Orioles on Wednesday.
Advice: The home run came seven games in, and it gave him his first RBI of 2013. His third-inning double was also a first. Yankees manager Joe Girardi had Granderson batting leadoff in an attempt to get his bat going. He should move toward the middle of the order eventually.

    • Rubby De La Rosa (intercostal) has resumed a throwing program.
Advice: De La Rosa was scratched from his start Tuesday with an intercostal strain but is expected to make a quick return to the Triple-A Pawtucket rotation. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio over eight starts (25 innings) this season.

    • Red Sox prospect right-hander Rubby De La Rosa was scratched from Tuesday's start with Triple-A Pawtucket for precautionary reasons after he tweaked a muscle in his side.
Advice: It's evidently not a major concern, but the Red Sox didn't want to risk him making things worse. De La Rosa has a 3.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings across eight starts this season in Triple-A and should make an impact with the big club before long.

Advice: Cabrera has three multi-hit games in his last four, pulling his batting average up from .239 to .263. The 27-year-old has been underwhelming so far this season, but he's currently on pace to reach double-digits in home runs and stolen bases.

Advice: Josh Outman, Matt Belisle and Wilton Lopez finished the five-hit shutout in a 5-0. Chatwood is sporting a nifty 1.90 ERA in four starts since joining the rotation, so it looks like he'll last for a while. We still don't trust him, not with his subpar command and poor changeup.

    • Carlos Quentin went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk in his return to the starting lineup on Friday.

    • Carlos Quentin (knee) is back in Friday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

    • Jeff Locke threw six scoreless innings to pick up his fifth win of the season Saturday as the Pirates beat the Brewers.
Advice: It was Locke's second-consecutive scoreless start, and his season ERA is now down to 2.45 through 10 starts. The left-hander yielded just three hits and three walks while striking out seven in the outing. He hasn't taken a loss since his first start of the season on April 7. • Mike Fiers allowed four runs -- including three home runs -- in four innings in the loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Advice: It was only Fiers' second start of the year and first since April 6, and you can see why. Fiers allowed homers to Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez and Neil Walker in his four innings, and the right-hander now has a 6.62 ERA on the year. Fiers' spot in the rotation -- although not necessarily Fiers -- will come up again Thursday against the Twins.

    • Freddy Garcia yielded three runs (two earned) in five innings Saturday in a win over the Blue Jays.
Advice: All in all, not bad considering how the Blue Jays have been swinging the bats recently. Garcia scattered nine hits while striking out one batter and walking none. The veteran right-hander has a 4.61 ERA and 9/6 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings across his first five starts with Baltimore. While he shouldn't be an option in most fantasy leagues, he's doing fine as a stopgap option in the starting rotation.

    • Freddy Garcia yielded two runs and three hits in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Yankees.
Advice: Garcia was in line for the win until Troy Patton and Jim Johnson gave up runs. Both runs Garcia allowed came on solo homers. He's now allowed six homers in four starts for the Orioles, which is why he's such a bad risk in AL-only leagues.

    • R.A. Dickey was tagged for five runs over 6 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Orioles.
Advice: Another clunker for Dickey, who entered Saturday's start with three straight outings of two earned runs allowed. The knuckleballer gave up nine hits (including two homers) and three walks in the loss. He now has a disappointing 4.85 ERA for the year and has walked 31 batters in 68 2/3 innings. He didn't issue his 31st walk last season until July 29.

    • R.A. Dickey yielded three runs (two earned) in eight innings Monday in a 7-5 win over the Rays.
Advice: It was his longest outing of the season. Dickey limited the Rays to just four hits, but he issued four walks. Still, he was able to limit the damage. The knuckleballer has allowed two earned runs in each of his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 5.36 to 4.50 for the year. It doesn't appear that Dickey will match the dominance he displayed last year, but he has righted the ship somewhat.

    • Jeremy Guthrie gave up seven runs (six earned) over seven innings in Saturday's loss to the Angels.
Advice: It was an odd outing for Guthrie, who fell behind in the fourth inning due to an error and an RBI ground out and didn't give up his first hit until Hank Conger connected for a solo homer in the sixth. Josh Hamilton launched a solo shot of his own one inning later while the Angels broke through with four runs in the eighth. After posting a 2.28 ERA over his first seven starts, Guthrie has a 7.91 ERA over his last three outings. He'll hope to turn things around next week against the Cardinals, but it isn't a promising matchup for fantasy purposes.

  • Mon, May 20
    • Jeremy Guthrie took a second straight loss after allowing six runs in five innings Monday against the Astros.
Advice: Well, that's disappointing. Guthrie allowed seven homers in his first seven starts, going 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA. In his last two, he's allowed six homers, while also striking out just two batters and walking six. Not that Guthrie was ever likely to maintain an ERA in the low-2.00s, but he has picked a surprising time to come apart, facing the dregs of the AL West (it was the Angels last time out). Mixed leaguers may want to move on, if not now then after his home start against the Angels this weekend.

Advice: Pollock was probably looking at a demotion right about now if Adam Eaton's rehab went as hoped. As is, he'll remain in the majors and continue to start against lefties for a few more weeks. He's 8-for-14 the last five days after breaking out of a 1-for-19 slump.

    • Chris Capuano gave up six runs -- five earned -- in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Advice: Capuano turned in back-to-back strong outings before tonight's stinker against a fine St. Louis offense, so we'll let him off the hook. It wouldn't have mattered much if he had allowed only one or two runs anyway; the Dodger offense wasn't getting anything done in the shutout tonight.
