    • Joakim Soria (elbow, pectoral) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Thursday.
Advice: Soria has made it through multiple batting practice sessions without incident and appears ready to progress to game action. Pitchers are permitted to have a 30-day rehab window and Soria figures to need most of it as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He could provide a nice boost for the Rangers' bullpen during the second half.

    • Joakim Soria (elbow) successfully threw live batting practice on the field before Friday's game.
Advice: He will throw another session on Monday, and will then be reassessed by the team. If all goes well then, he could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. The Rangers are hoping that he'll be able to rejoin their bullpen at some point in the next month. While he won't be an option initially, he could soon work his way into a primary setup role behind Joe Nathan.

    • Joakim Soria (elbow) will throw live batting practice on Friday.
Advice: He'll throw 2-3 live BP sessions before possibly being cleared to begin a rehab assignment. The Rangers are hoping Soria will join their bullpen sometime next month. "I can't wait," Soria said. "I have been working hard in Arizona, but I'm really happy to get here and be around a Major League club again -- start living this life again, the atmosphere, getting excited for a game. That pushes me even more."

    • Esmil Rogers allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 6 2/3 innings to beat the Rockies on Tuesday.
Advice: Rogers has now turned in two straight impressive starts as a member of the Blue Jays rotation, keeping the Rangers to one run through seven innings in his last start before limiting the Rockies to three runs on just four hits Tuesday. It's hard to imagine the success will last, but with Brandon Morrow suffering a setback recently Rogers will likely continue to start in the near term. His next start will come Monday against the Rays in Tampa.

  • Thu, Jun 13
    • Esmil Rogers pitched seven innings of one-run ball and picked up a win Thursday against the Rangers.
Advice: Rogers played Yu Darvish to a stalemate, and the Blue Jays scored two runs in the top of the eighth off the Texas bullpen to put Rogers in line for the win. Steve Delabar and Casey Janssen pitched scoreless innings from there. Rogers won despite striking out just one batter. The lone run came on Nelson Cruz's homer. Rogers almost certainly guaranteed himself another start with the performance, and since that seems likely to come at home against the Troy Tulowitzki-less Rockies, he's not a bad spot option in AL-only leagues.

    • Patrick Corbin hurled eight innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Marlins on Monday.
Advice: He gave up just two hits, striking out seven and walking one. Corbin was outstanding outside of a two-run mistake Giancarlo Stanton deposited into the left-field seats in the seventh. Corbin remains a perfect 9-0, to go with an outstanding 2.28 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, but Monday marked the first time Arizona has lost one of his starts. The Snakes are now 13-1 with Corbin on the mound in 2013.

Advice: Corbin was in line for his first loss when he exited, but the Diamondbacks rallied and ended up winning in 12. It's the second straight outing in which he's left with the Diamondbacks in a hole. However, Arizona remains a perfect 13-0 with him on the mound.

    • Roy Oswalt is officially scheduled to make his Rockies debut Thursday in D.C. against the Nationals.
Advice: Oswalt signed a minor league contract with Colorado on May 2 and has registered a stellar 2.16 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 25/7 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings since reporting to Double-A Tulsa. The veteran right-hander is worth a try in most standard mixed fantasy leagues, though keep in mind that he struggled last year with the Rangers.

The veteran right-hander may be worth a try in deeper mixed fantasy formats. He had a 5.80 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 59 innings last season for the Rangers.

    • Ross Detwiler allowed four runs over six innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.
Advice: The start was just Detwiler's second since returning from the disabled list, and he's yet to record a win since returning. He was decent until faltering in his last inning, allowing three runs and four hits in the sixth. It was otherwise a positive start for the southpaw. He'll continue to round into form when he faces the Rockies on Sunday.

    • Ross Detwiler was serviceable in his return from the disabled list Thursday, allowing three runs over five frames in a 5-4 win over the Rockies.
Advice: Detwiler gave up six hits, hit a batter, didn't walk anyone and struck out a pair. Not quite fully stretched out, he was removed after throwing 77 pitches. The left-hander now has a 3.03 ERA for the season, but it's come along with a 1.42 WHIP and just 25 strikeouts over 50 2/3 innings. He'll face the Phillies on the road next.

    • Huston Street earned his 14th save of the year Monday as the Padres beat the Giants 5-3.
Advice: Street entered with a 5-3 lead in the 13th inning and stranded Gregor Blanco, who reached on a single. Street isn't striking anyone out -- he has 13 over 24 games -- and has tossed only four perfect innings in 2013. Despite Street's struggles, he's 14-for-15 in save conversions and has a good amount of job security.

    • Huston Street allowed a run on two hits Saturday, but escaped with his 12th save of the year against the Diamondbacks.
Advice: With one out, Cliff Pennington reached on infield single. Two batters later, he was doubled in by Gerardo Parra. Street next induced a game-ending fly out from Didi Gregorius. It was Street's first appearance since the Padres activated him from the disabled list (strained left calf). The veteran closer has been highly susceptible to damage this year, going 0-3 with a 4.64 ERA. Because of his name, Street presumably has plenty of job security.

    • Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a ninth inning solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in a tie game Monday.
Advice: Entering a 2-2 contest in the top of the ninth, Bell struck out Ed Lucas before Stanton homered to right. Bell (4.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) has allowed a home run in three consecutive appearances. Consider it a course-correction after he enjoyed some good luck earlier this season. With J.J. Putz (elbow) close to returning, the clock on Bell's reign as closer may be ticking.

  • Thu, Jun 13
    • Heath Bell gave up his second homer in two days Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Bell was working with a four-run lead, so the fact that he allowed a solo homer and another run didn't cost the Diamondbacks. Still, it's a bit of a concern that he's suddenly allowed homers to Juan Uribe and Ramon Hernandez the last two days. Advice: After blowing his first save of the year his last time out, Papelbon rebounded to convert his next opportunity with relative ease. Papelbon's name has been thrown around as someone who might draw interest at the trade deadline, and he's doing his part, owning a 1.69 ERA and 0.71 WHIP through 26 2/3 innings.

Advice: Papelbon was a perfect 13-for-13 this season before missing inside to Tracy tonight. It wasn't much more than a 340-foot flyball, but it was well placed down the line at Citizens Bank. Papelbon ended up getting the win anyway after the Phillies scored in the bottom of the ninth.

Advice: Mujica gave up a homer to Marlon Byrd on Thursday and another to Darwin Barney tonight, but he's yet to allow one in a one-run game. All four homers he's given up this year have been solo shots. It helps a lot that he hasn't walked a batter since April 3.

    • Vinnie Pestano got through a tumultuous ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season on Tuesday as the Indians beat the Royals 4-3.
Advice: Pestano managed the rare feat of allowing three hits and a walk while throwing a scoreless inning, as the Royals' baserunning miscues aided the cause. With Chris Perez working his way back Pestano's days closing games could be numbered, but Perez is no sure thing to be effective upon returning.
