• Report: Nick Senzel suffers broken thumb
The Washington Post’s Andrew Golden reports Nick Senzel suffered a broken right thumb.

Advice: Senzel suffered the freak injury while fielding a grounder prior to Thursday’s Opening Day showdown against the Reds. Nothing official from the Nationals yet, but it appears likely the 28-year-old is facing an extended absence. It’s possible prospect Trey Lipscomb will get the call to the majors after putting together a strong spring. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Has broken thumb
Senzel broke his thumb while fielding a ground ball before Thursday's game against the Reds, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: The Nationals should offer more details following Thursday's game, but it sounds like Senzel may be facing an extended absence to begin the season. Ildemaro Vargas entered the lineup as Senzel's replacement and figures to see regular reps at third base while he's out. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Playing 2B in opener
Valdez is starting at second base and batting eighth for Thursday's opener against the Mariners, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: With Vaughn Grissom (groin) on the 10-day IL, Valdez will get first crack at second base Thursday ahead of Pablo Reyes. In spring training, Valdez slashed .204/.264/.531 with four home runs and seven RBI over 49 at-bats. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
  • Royce Lewis exits Opening Day with quad injury
Royce Lewis was removed from Thursday’s Opening Day showdown against the Royals with a right quad injury.

Advice: Lewis was off to a sizzling-hot start at the dish, going 2-for-2 with a solo homer against Royals ace Cole Ragans before suffering a quad injury while rounding second base on Carlos Correa’s third-inning RBI double. It certainly seems possible that he could be headed for a trip to the injured list given the nebulous initial terminology used by the Twins here, but that won’t become clearer until he undergoes some additional imaging to determine the severity of the injury. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days, if not sooner. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

Here’s the full lineup: Steven Kwan LF, Ramírez 3B, Ramón Laureano RF, Josh Naylor 1B, David Fry DH, Tyler Freeman CF, Andrés Giménez 2B, Austin Hedges C and Brayan Rocchio SS.
