• Jason Foley gets final two outs for save
Jason Foley struck out the final two hitters without allowing a hit to pick up a save against the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Interesting. Alex Lange was reportedly available for this outing, but it was Foley who got the final two outs to pick up the save. Lange was widely assumed to receive the bulk of the save chances during the 2024 season, and while that still may be true, there’s at least some intrigue in seeing Foley get the final two outs. Fantasy managers who roster Lange will want to pay close attention to this situation. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Garrett Crochet pitches well in loss to Tigers
Garrett Crochet allowed just one run with eight strikeouts over six innings Thursday against the Tigers, but took the loss.

Advice: Crochet was outstanding against Detroit on Thursday, but unfortunately got zero run support with Tarik Skubal dominating the White Sox lineup. The only run he allowed was on a sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored Javier Baez off the bat of Andy Ibanez. It’s just one outing against a mediocre lineup, but the left-hander showed the stuff that made him a first-round pick and gives him a chance to be an effective starter at the highest level. He’ll likely get a chance to build on this effort Tuesday against Atlanta. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Hits shelf Thursday
The Pirates placed Holderman (illness) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Holderman was set back in spring training by a bout with a virus, but he's expected to throw a live batting practice session this week and should soon head to Triple-A Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment. The right-hander proved to be one of Pittsburgh's more reliable relievers in his first full season in the organization in 2023, compiling a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 58:20 K:BB in 56 innings. • Goes on 15-day IL
The Pirates placed Mlodzinski on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Mlodzinski won't open the season on the Pirates' 26-man active roster, but he could be ready to return from the IL when first eligible April 9. The right-hander has already resumed throwing off a mound and is expected to throw a live batting practice session later this week, according to MLB.com. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago
  • Unavailable on Opening Day
Bednar was unavailable to pitch Thursday against the Marlins due to ongoing rehab from a lat injury, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Bednar was sidelined for much of spring training with a lat issue, though he managed to make his Grapefruit League debut March 21 while making an additional appearance on March 24. He hasn't been placed on the injured list, so presumably, Pittsburgh expects him to be ready to retake the mound quickly. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

  • Jose Hernandez records extra-inning save Thursday
Jose Hernandez tossed a perfect 12th inning on Thursday against the Marlins to record his first save of the season.

Advice: Hernandez got the call to guard a one-run lead in the 12th inning of Thursday’s Opening Day marathon against the Marlins just a few hours after getting the call back to the majors with Roansy Contreras on paternity leave. He’s unlikely to net any additional save chances moving forward. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago
