    • Max Scherzer could make ’24 debut in early May
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports Max Scherzer (back) could return in early May.

Advice: Scherzer is scheduled to face hitters again on Friday in a 40-pitch live batting practice session and could progress to a minor league rehab assignment shortly afterwards. The 39-year-old veteran righty has made a rapid recovery from offseason back surgery, which was originally expected to keep him on the shelf until late June. It might be too optimistic to expect him to make his season debut in early May, but it can’t be completely ruled out at this juncture. It certainly sounds like he’s going to return to the Rangers’ starting rotation at some point next month. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:23 pm

    • Aroldis Chapman receives two-game suspension
Aroldis Chapman has received a two-game suspension for on-field actions following his ejection from Monday’s game against the Mets.

Advice: Chapman, who has also received an undisclosed fine, has the ability to appeal the league-issued two-game suspension. The 36-year-old lefty reliever was tossed from the eighth inning of Monday’s showdown against the Mets after recording just one out and allowing three runs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:20 pm

    • Suspended two games
Chapman was given a two-game suspension and fine Thursday for his actions versus the Mets on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Chapman got into an altercation with an umpire and was ejected during the bottom of the eighth inning in Monday's loss against the Mets. The lefty was credited for the loss after surrendering three runs and recording just one out during the appearance. He is permitted to appeal the suspension. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:54 pm

    • Goes deep Wednesday
Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Santander has gone 3-for-18 over his last five contests. That's not a great stretch, but so far, he's in little danger of losing playing time as manager Brandon Hyde gets creative to keep Colton Cowser in the lineup. Santander is batting .203 with four homers, 15 RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases through 74 plate appearances as the Orioles' primary right fielder. • Strikes out six in loss
Abbott (1-2) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings.

Advice: Abbott was efficient for most of the afternoon, with the exception of the four-seamers he left out over the plate for Cal Raleigh in the second inning and Mitch Garver in the sixth, both of which would end up in the outfield stands. The young lefty hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his first four starts to open the season and actually fanned a season-high six batters Wednesday, though the two home runs he surrendered also marked a season high. Furthermore, Abbott has now gone at least six innings in each of his last two starts and carries a clean 2.70 ERA following the loss. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:46 am
    • Second homer in three games
Ruiz went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run, a stolen base and an additional run in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: Ruiz led off and went deep for the second time in three games, slugging a 412-foot shot to left center with Max Schuemann aboard in the third inning to open the scoring. The hot-hitting outfielder's recent power display is especially noteworthy, considering he belted only five homers across 490 plate appearances in 2023, and because he's been focused on improving his hard contact since spring training. • Earns three walks across twin bill
Jimenez went 0-for-5 with three walks and a run scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals.

Advice: Jimenez was in the lineup for the first time since being activated from the injured list, and he served as the designated hitter in both contests while batting cleanup. It's also possible that Jimenez will see time in the outfield, though the team may be cautious with his usage given his lengthy injury history. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:14 pm

    • Clubs pair of homers
Schwarber went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a solo home run during Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Schwarber notched his first multi-homer game of the season -- a feat he accomplished three times in the 2023 regular season -- with the solo homer coming off Ryan Feltner in the first inning and the two-run shot coming at the expense of Peter Lambert in the sixth. The performance came on the heels of three straight games without a hit (0-for-11), pushing Schwarber out of the mini-slump. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:48 pm

    • Nails third save
Alvarado picked up the save Wednesday, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout over a scoreless inning against Colorado.

Advice: After keeping the Rockies off the scoreboard in the ninth inning Wednesday, Alvarado has now turned in eight straight scoreless appearances (7.2 innings) since his nightmare five-run 2024 debut. While it'll still take some time to get Alvarado's ERA down to an acceptable number, fantasy managers can take solace in knowing that Alvarado has looked like himself since turning the page on his March 29 outing.
