    • Kyle Higashioka hits walkoff homer for Padres
Kyle Higashioka took Scott Alexander deep in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth to give the Padres a 4-3 win over the A’s on Tuesday.

Advice: It’s Higashioka’s first ever walkoff homer. He’s been even Higgier than usual this season in collecting five homers, one walk, five singles and seven RBI through 65 plate appearances as Luis Campusano’s backup. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

    • Randy Vásquez solid for five against Athletics
Randy Vásquez pitched five innings of one-run ball against the A’s on Tuesday.

Advice: Vásquez left with a two-run lead, but that was blown by Enyel De Los Santos in the eighth. Still, the Padres went on to prevail in the ninth, winning for just the second time in Vásquez’s eight starts this year. He’s due to pitch in Philadelphia next, so it’ll be best to avoid him then. • JP Sears gives up three runs to Padres
JP Sears surrendered three runs and seven hits in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Padres.

Advice: Sears hasn’t been all that bad with his 4.02 ERA, but we liked the 2023 version better. He finished with just one strikeout tonight, the fourth time in 14 starts this year that that has happened, and he walked three. Last year, he had more strikeouts than walks in 30 of his 32 starts. This year, he’s 9-for-14. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

    • Tyler Soderstrom hits game-tying homer in eighth
Tyler Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk versus the Padres on Tuesday.

Advice: Soderstrom has homered in back-to-back games, raising his OPS from .622 to .760, and tonight’s tied the game in the eighth inning. Now that the A’s seem to have committed to Soderstrom at first base against righties, he’s of some interest in leagues in which he qualifies at catcher. He doesn’t yet in traditional leagues, as he spent more time at DH than anywhere else in 45-game stint with the A’s last year. He’s appeared in just one major league game at catcher this season, playing four innings off the bench. Tonight’s start was his 19th at first base. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

    • Blanks Rockies in spot start
Varland didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Colorado, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts across five scoreless innings.

Advice: Varland was part of the Twins rotation to start 2024, but after falling to a 9.18 ERA after four starts, he was sent down to Triple-A. The 26-year-old also struggled in the minors, owning a 5.31 ERA before being called up Tuesday to give Minnesota's starters an extra day of rest. Varland made quick work of the Rockies, needing just 63 pitches to get through five innings. However, he didn't qualify for the win, as the Twins didn't score until seventh inning. • Two thefts in win
Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Rodriguez is 12-for-39 (.308) over his first 10 games in June, though he's also posted a 4:13 BB:K. He was able to make an impact on the basepaths Tuesday with his first steals since May 29. The star outfielder is now 16-for-20 in stolen bases while slashing .271/.318/.348 with five home runs, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored over 69 contests. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Another scoreless start
Quantrill (6-4) picked up the win Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing three hits and one walk with five strikeouts across six scoreless innings.

Advice: Quantrill has gone 11 straight innings without allowing a run and issued fewer than two walks for the first time in four starts. The 29-year-old didn't yield an extra-base hit Tuesday and didn't let a runner get past second base, qualifying for his sixth quality start in his last eight outings. While his strikeout stuff has been hit-or-miss, Quantrill owns a 6-1 record and a 1.91 ERA since the start of May. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Dodgers at Coors Field on Monday. Quantrill allowed four runs in 4.1 innings when he faced the Dodgers in Los Angeles on June 1. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

    • Collects save Tuesday
Stanek pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Stanek earned the win Monday after the Mariners won in walk-off fashion, and he was able to protect a lead Tuesday. The right-hander has pitched back-to-back days twice in the last week, while Andres Munoz, who recently dealt with a back injury, has taken the mound just once in that span. Stanek has had mixed results as a setup man in 2024, posting a 4.21 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB over 25.2 innings while adding five saves, 10 holds and two blown saves. • Removed with back tightness
Ward was removed from Tuesday's game against Arizona due to lower-back tightness.

Advice: The Angels described Ward's removal as precautionary, so it's unlikely he's dealing with a serious injury. The 30-year-old outfielder had gone 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI double before leaving in the eighth inning, and he's now slashing .253/.331/.452 with 12 homers and 36 RBI on the season.
