    • Plays catch Saturday
Williams (back) played catch before Saturday's game against the Astros, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Saturday marks the first time Williams has done any sort of throwing since being shut down during spring training due to multiple stress fractures in his back. The 29-year-old closer still has a long way to go before the Brewers can think about sending him out on a minor-league rehab assignment, but he is certainly trending in the right direction. He's expected to rejoin Milwaukee's bullpen near the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Not in lineup Saturday
Carter (back) is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Angels.

Advice: Carter will remain on the bench for another contest Saturday, though it may be a result of the team facing left-hander Patrick Sandoval and not his back injury. Manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that the outfielder would be available off the bench versus Los Angeles and Carter did end up appearing in the game, going 0-for-1. Carter will look to return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale, but in the meantime, Robbie Grossman will draw the start in left field and bat sixth Saturday. • Evan Carter sitting against lefty on Saturday
Evan Carter is not in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Angels.

Advice: Carter’s exclusion from Saturday’s lineup card appears to be purely matchup driven with southpaw Patrick Sandoval on the mound for Los Angeles, but he’s out of the lineup for a seventh straight contest since last weekend recovering from a lower-back issue. The 21-year-old former top prospect should be available to pinch-hit, if needed, on Saturday night. He should return to the lineup on Sunday afternoon to face righty José Soriano. • Still in line to return Sunday
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is "in a great spot" to return to the team's rotation Sunday in Atlanta, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports.

Advice: Musgrove has thrown two bullpen sessions since going on the injured list with right elbow inflammation May 5 and doesn't appear to need a rehab assignment. The right-hander played catch Friday, and if he recovers well from that, there's a good chance he'll take the mound for Sunday's matchup in Atlanta. Musgrove has struggled with a 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 41 innings this season, though he pitched well in his most recent start prior to landing on the IL, allowing two runs and striking out nine batters over six frames against Cincinnati on May 1. • Swipes two bags Friday
Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases Friday in a 3-1 win against Atlanta.

Advice: Bogaerts doubled his season stolen-base total with a swipe of second in both the fifth and eighth innings. Prior to Friday, the second baseman's most recent theft took place April 22. Bogaerts has had a subpar start to the season with a .220/.268/.319 slash line through 194 plate appearances, but he's begun to come on of late, batting .350 with two homers and two RBI during his current five-game hitting streak. • Tyler Anderson holds Rangers to two hits in win
Tyler Anderson limited the Rangers to one run and two hits over seven innings in the Angels’ 9-3 victory Friday.

Advice: Anderson gave up eight hard-hit balls tonight, yet just two proved troublesome. One was a homer off the bat of Jonah Heim. The other was a double. It’s kind of baffling how Anderson has a 2.72 ERA with weaker peripherals than teammates Reid Detmers (5.19 ERA) and Patrick Sandoval (5.00 ERA). If the Angels can get anything of value for him in trade, they really ought to go for it. Rotoworld Friday, 11:12 pm
    • Cole Ragans goes seven scoreless to defeat A’s
Cole Ragans blanked the A’s for seven innings, allowing just two hits, in the Royals’ 6-2 win Friday.

Advice: It’s the first time this year that Ragans has completed seven innings, though it’s the third time he’s pitched at least six scoreless innings. He’s 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA and an excellent 64/19 K/BB in 56 innings. Up next is a home start versus the Tigers. Rotoworld Friday, 10:28 pm

    • Xander Bogaerts swipes two bases against Braves
Xander Bogaerts collected two singles and two steals versus the Braves on Friday.

Advice: The least struggling hitters can do is steal a few bases for those rostering them in fantasy leagues. Bogaerts doubled his steal total for the season tonight, collecting two in a game for the first time since last May 5. He now has 12 two-steal games in his career, which is kind of impressive because he has just 81 career steals. He has only eight two-homer games, though he’s totaled 179 homers in his 12 seasons. • Three hits in win
Perez went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Perez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and got on base three more times in Friday's victory. The veteran catcher is batting .294 (15-for-51) with seven extra-base hits and eight RBI in May. That's actually down from his overall numbers -- Perez is slashing a stellar .335/.403/.557 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 18 runs scored and 11 doubles over 176 plate appearances. He last hit above .300 for a full season in the abbreviated 2020 campaign, so there is a high risk that he cools off eventually in 2024, but he's been excellent over the first quarter of the season.
