• Recalled from Triple-A
The Yankees recalled Gil from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: Gil was optioned back in early March but wound up winning the Yankees' fifth starter job after Gerrit Cole (elbow) went down. He is tentatively slated to make his season debut on Monday in Arizona. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago

  • Maikel Garcia leading off for Royals on Thursday
Maikel Garcia will lead off and play third base for the Royals on Thursday when they face the Twins on Opening Day.

Advice: Garcia had started hitting leadoff midway through spring training, but it’s nice to see that decision carry over into the regular season. Garcia hit .273/.324/.361 with 23 steals as a rookie last season but he didn’t contribute much in the way of counting stats. Hitting in the leadoff spot will give him a good opportunity to pile up runs to go with his plus speed and solid batting average. It’s a big boost for his fantasy value, and he remains underrated. The full Opening Day lineup is: Maikel Garcia 3B, Bobby Witt SS, Vinny Pasquantino 1B, Sal Perez C, MJ Melendez LF, Hunter Renfroe RF, Adam Frazier 2B, Nelson Velzquez DH, Kyle Isbel CF. • Goes on IL with knee injury
The Yankees placed Moore on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25, with right knee bursitis.

Advice: Moore didn't pitch this spring because of the injury and it's not clear how long he might be out. The right-handed reliever was a waiver claim back in February. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago
  • Goes on 10-day injured list
The Yankees placed LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 25, with a right foot contusion.

Advice: LeMahieu's rehab from a bone bruise in his foot is coming along but hasn't advanced enough for him to play in the opener. The veteran infielder will undergo an MRI Friday to check his progress. Oswaldo Cabrera and Jon Berti will handle third base while LeMahieu is out. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Edouard Julien sitting on opening day vs a LHP
Edouard Julien is on the bench for Thursday’s Opening Day matchup against the Royals with Kyle Farmer starting at second base and hitting seventh.

Advice: The Royals are throwing left-hander Cole Ragans, so the Twins are sitting the majority of their left-handed starters. This was the case for Julien last year and it appears that will carry over into 2024. The same is true for Alex Kirilloff and Matt Wallner, who also find themselves on the bench against Ragans. All three should start regularly against right-handed pitchers, but fantasy managers with weekly lineup leagues should always check to see how many lefties the Twins are set to face in a given week. The opening day lineup for the Twins will be Byron Buxton CF, Ryan Jeffers, C, Royce Lewis 3B, Carlos Correa, SS, Carlos Santana 1B, Max Kepler, RF, Kyle Farmer, 2B, Willi Castro LF, Manuel Margot DH. • Placed on 60-day IL
The Yankees placed Cole on the 60-day injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: The initial timetable for Cole's return from his right elbow injury was 1-to-2 months, but clearly it's going to be closer to the latter end of that span. The hope is that the reigning American League Cy Young winner will be ready to begin a throwing program in a couple weeks, but the Yankees will not rush what will be a slow and steady build-up. • Michael Stefanic goes on the IL with quad strain
Angels placed INF Michael Stefanic (left quad strain) on the 10-day IL.

Advice: Stefanic’s stint on the IL is retroactive to March 25th; however, he was shut down from baseball activities last week after an MRI revealed a setback in his recovery. The infielder was solid in his limited at-bats in 2023, but the Angels roster is crowded now with some of the oft-injured veterans like Aaron Hicks, Anthony Rendon, and Miguel Sano healthy to start the season. The team will likely not rush Stefanic back, but he figures to be one of the first calls if they need to replace an infielder on the active roster. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Recalled from Triple-A
The Marlins recalled Bride from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Miami had sent Bride to minor-league camp earlier this month, but he'll now fill the roster spot vacated by the trade of Jon Berti. Bride will provide depth at multiple infield spots. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Robert Stephenson heads to IL with shoulder injury
Angels placed Robert Stephenson (right shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day IL.

Advice: This is not an unexpected move, but it’s now official. Stephenson’s injured list stint is retroactive to March 25th, so he can come off in under two weeks. We know he played catch last week and threw bullpens earlier this week, so it’s possible he won’t require a long stint on the injured list to start the year. While he will not be thrust into the closer’s role as soon as he’s activated, he should resume pitching in high-leverage situations and remains a good bet to eventually claim a large portion of the Angels’ save share in 2024.
