• Exits with injury
Alvarez was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers with an apparent left hand injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alvarez stumbled while rounding first base during the top of the second inning and appeared to jam his left thumb while trying to regain his footing. He remained in the game to run the bases and eventually came around to score, but he was replaced behind the dish by Omar Narvaez once the Mets' defense took the field. He will presumably undergo imaging, and the team should offer an update on his status in the near future. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Adley Rutschman swats grand slam in loss to Royals
Adley Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a grand slam in a 9-4 loss by the Orioles to the Royals on Friday.

Advice: With the Orioles trailing 6-0, Rutschman got the Orioles back into the game with a bases-loaded blast off Will Smith in the seventh inning. The 26-year-old has now homered twice in 2024, and he’s up to 11 RBI over the first 18 games. Rutschman may never be an elite power option, but this is obviously not a dink-and-dunk hitter, either. • Travis d’Arnaud hits three homers in Braves’ win
Travis d’Arnaud hit three homers to drive in six runs and power the Braves past the Rangers 8-3 on Friday.

Advice: There weren’t any cheapies either, as d’Arnaud’s homers were projected at 429, 440 and 433 feet. With a chance at a fourth in the bottom of the eighth, d’Arnaud grounded out against Austin Pruitt. It’s d’Arnaud’s second career three-homer game, the other coming with the Rays in 2019. He had been without a homer in 48 plate appearances this season, but his OPS jumped from .561 to .819 tonight. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Undergoes knee surgery
Delay recently underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Delay is expected to be ready to resume baseball activities in six weeks and it figures to be several weeks after that before he might be ready to return to the Pirates. Pittsburgh is currently using Henry Davis and Joey Bart as its catching duo, but Yasmani Grandal (foot) recently began a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 1:16 pm

McGuire is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Manager Alex Cora continue to split playing time behind the plate relatively evenly, with Connor Wong receiving the start Friday. McGuire has scuffled offensively over his past six games, going 3-for-16 with six strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 12:11 pm

Gomes is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest against the Marlins.
