  • Set for Tommy John
    Stephenson (elbow) announced Tuesday that he is going to get Tommy John surgery April 30, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: It was announced Thursday that Stephenson would undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow. The 31-year-old had a rehab appearance for his shoulder April 13, but exited with a sore elbow. The righty joined the Angels on a three-year, $33 million contract in January, but entered spring training with the shoulder injury and remains to have seen the field for his new team.     Means (forearm) is making a rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.comreports.

    Advice: The veteran left-hander recorded just one out and threw 34 pitches in his previous rehab outing, so he'll look to get back on track and build up his workload Tuesday.     The Diamondbacks placed Castro on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 21, with right shoulder inflammation.

    Advice: Castro will undergo an MRI on his right shoulder Wednesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. The reliever was dealing with discomfort for a bit, but it seems to have gradually gotten worse. He surrendered two runs on four hits across one inning during his last appearance Saturday.     Advice: The left-hander is ready to resume his rehab assignment after a bout of dead arm slowed the progress in his return from a pinched nerve in his left shoulder. Garrett threw 86 pitches in his previous rehab outing April 12 and is scheduled to throw about 60 pitches or four innings Friday.
