    • Next rehab outing set for Tuesday
Scherzer (back) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Frisco, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer will look to push up his pitch count in his second rehab outing after he struck out four over 2.1 innings (52 pitches) while allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks in his 2024 debut Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock. Since Scherzer missed all of spring training while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, he could require an additional rehab start after Tuesday to get fully stretched out. The right-hander looks on track to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut for the Rangers in early May. Rotowire.com Today, 10:34 am

    • Tosses 52 pitches on rehab
Scherzer (back) allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over 2.1 innings in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Advice: Scherzer kicked off a rehab assignment Wednesday, giving up a pair of home runs while running his pitch count to 52, including 11 swinging strikes. That's in line with his progression after throwing 40 in his most recent live batting practice session. Scherzer's velocity was down across the board, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, but that is to be expected from the right-hander, who is working his way back from offseason back surgery. • Smacks two homers in win
Lindor went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Lindor provided most of the offense for the Mets on Wednesday, launching a two-run homer in the top of the third to put New York on the board before adding a second two-run shot in the ninth. The shortstop finished with season highs in hits and RBI, raising his average to .206 in the process. Lindor has gotten off to a slow start to begin the campaign but has now registered multiple hits in five of his last 10 games. Rotowire.com Today, 4:41 am
    • Swipes two bags
Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run batted in and two stolen bases during Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Garcia collected his fifth and sixth stolen bases of the season for his second multi-steal game of 2024. He plated Kyle Isbel in the second inning on a single and notched another single in the fifth. Garcia is batting .368 with four runs scored and four RBi in his last five games. • Maikel Garcia swipes two bases against Blue Jays
Maikel Garcia went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of steals on Wednesday in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Garcia is warming up at the plate after falling into a slump with his third multi-hit game in his last five contests. He knocked a base hit in the second inning to drive in a run before stealing second. He added another base hit in the fifth and stole third for his second steal of the game. The 24-year-old third baseman is slashing .206/.255/.381 with four homers, 16 RBI, and six steals across 106 plate appearances. His batting average should continue to rise as he’s posting an excellent hard-hit rate and making plenty of contact. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:35 pm

    • Max Scherzer gives up three runs in rehab start
Max Scherzer looked a bit rusty in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander struck out four batters in the contest and didn’t issue a base on balls. Two of the three runs scored against him came on solo home runs — off the bats of Jason Martin and Cole Tucker. Scherzer threw a total of 52 pitches in the ballgame, 32 of those for strikes. All that really matters is that he made it through the start healthy. He’s going to need at least one additional rehab start, but if things go well in that outing he could then be cleared to join the Rangers’ rotation in early May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:33 pm

    • Run bases Wednesday
Albies (toe) took part in baserunning as part of a workout prior to Atlanta's game against the Marlins on Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Albies continues to trend in a positive direction in his recovery from a fractured right big toe, which he sustained April 16. The second baseman had already participated in fielding drills and resumed swinging a bat in recent days, and being able to run the bases is another sign that he's no longer inhibited by the injury. Albies is first eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list Friday, and he appears on track to play this weekend versus the Guardians if he avoids any setbacks coming out of Wednesday's workout. • Lindor goes 4-for-5, homers twice in victory
Francisco Lindor went 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBI as the Mets topped the Giants 8-2 on Wednesday.

Advice: The homers came off Sean Hjelle in the third and Mitch White in the ninth. The slumping Lindor raised his OPS from .538 to .652 today. At .206, it’s also the first time this season he’s boasted an average at or above the Mendoza Line. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:53 pm
    • Confirmed for first rehab start
The Rangers announced that Scherzer (back) will make his first minor-league rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Texas' decision to place Scherzer on the 15-day injured list rather than the 60-day IL coming out of spring training was the first hint that the veteran righty was making a speedier-than-expected recovery from his Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, and he appears to have faced no setbacks while advancing through his throwing progression during the first month of the regular season. Scherzer will now move on to the final phase of his ramp-up program by heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, which will likely consist of at least two appearances with Round Rock or another affiliate. According to the Associated Press, manager Bruce Bochy said Scherzer is expected to throw about 50 pitches in Wednesday's outing after he tossed a 40-pitch simulated game this past Friday.
