Ryan (5-5) earned the win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five batters over seven innings.

Advice: Ryan surrendered a two-run homer to Tyler Soderstrom in the second inning, but those were the only runs the A's managed against the righty hurler. Ryan finished with a stat line very similar to his previous outing, when he gave up two runs on three hits over seven frames versus Pittsburgh, though that performance came in a losing effort. The 28-year-old pitcher has four quality starts over his past five appearances and has posted a 2.73 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 33 frames during that span. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

    • Ryan picks up fifth win against A’s Thursday
Joe Ryan allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Twins’ 6-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Ryan gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. The win was his fifth of the year. Both of the runs for Oakland came on a Tyler Soderstrom two-run home run in the second inning. Ryan hung a splitter to Soderstrom, but it was basically the only mistake he made on the night. It was Ryan’s 10th quality start of the season. His ERA is now 3.24 on the year. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays at home next week.

    • Returns to lineup Thursday
Ward (back) is serving as the Angels' designated hitter and batting third Thursday versus the Diamondbacks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ward was taken out of Tuesday's game due to back tightness and had to miss Wednesday's contest as well, but the issue has now seemingly subsided. Since June 1, the 30-year-old outfielder has gone just 4-for-28 with two RBI and two runs while striking out eight times in nine games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:27 pm

    • Taylor Ward returns to lineup at DH on Thursday
Taylor Ward (back) is in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Ward is back at designated hitter and batting third on Thursday evening following a one-game absence for precautionary reasons due to lower back tightness. The 30-year-old slugger, who has 12 homers and two steals in 65 games this season, has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few weeks and could wind up being moved in the coming weeks. • Trea Turner (hamstring) running at 100 percent
Trea Turner (hamstring) progressed to running at 100 percent on Thursday.

Advice: Turner is trending towards making his long-awaited return to Philadelphia’s lineup at some point early next week. It sounds like the 30-year-old shortstop will skip a minor-league rehab assignment, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get in a couple at-bats over the weekend prior to returning. • Alec Marsh takes no-no into seventh versus Yankees
Alec Marsh allowed only a single over seven scoreless innings Thursday against the Yankees.

Advice: Marsh, who came into the day having given up 14 earned runs in his previous three starts, took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up a single to Juan Soto. He ended up with seven strikeouts and two walks. Alas, he didn’t factor into the decision after John Schreiber blew a two-run lead in the eighth. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:27 pm

    • Flirts with no-hitter vs. Yankees
Marsh came away with a no-decision in Thursday's 4-3 win versus the Yankees. He threw seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out seven.

Advice: Marsh took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a leadoff single to Juan Soto. Despite the bullpen failing to hold the lead, it was still the longest no-hit bid by a Royals pitcher this season. The 26-year-old righty dazzled his first two trips through the Yankees' potent lineup, and four of the seven strikeouts he recorded were against Soto and Aaron Judge. Marsh has been a solid rotation piece for the Royals this year with a 3.63 ERA through 12 outings, and he currently lines up to make his next start in Oakland next week. • Cole Irvin strikes out eight in loss to Braves
Cole Irvin yielded four runs — three earned — in 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: Irvin struck out a season-high eight and walked just one, but he again lacked hit luck today. He’s given up 25 hits over 17 2/3 innings in his last three starts. In his seven previous outings, he allowed a total of 26 hits in 36 innings. He’s still looking pretty solid regardless; he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since Apr. 10. The loss today leaves him 6-3 with a 3.03 ERA. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:01 pm

    • Early woes mars outing
Irvin (6-3) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against Atlanta. He struck out eight.

Advice: Irvin allowed hits to the first three batters in the game, including back-to-back doubles that immediately put the Orioles into a two-run hole. He was able to piece things together thereafter, only allowing one more earned run and striking out a season-high eight batters through 5.2 innings to keep the O's in the game, though they were never able to climb out of that deficit. It's the third-straight game has allowed eight or more hits, though it's just the second time in his last 11 outings he's allowed as many as three earned runs, raising his ERA to 3.03 through 68.1 innings. He's next slated to take the hill early next week when the Orioles travel to New York for an early-week showdown against the first place Yankees. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:35 pm
