    • Jordan Montgomery hits IL with knee inflammation
Diamondbacks placed LHP Jordan Montgomery on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 29, with right knee inflammation.

Advice: Arizona had to come up with something here since Montgomery badly needs to press the reset button on the metaphorical console. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that injury occurred during a bullpen session over the weekend and he doesn’t expect it to be an extended absence. The 31-year-old southpaw’s Arizona debut has gone about as poorly as one could imagine with a bloated 6.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 45/23 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings (13 starts). The hope here for fantasy managers is that some time out of the spotlight to work on things is able to help him get back on track. Rotoworld Today, 3:34 pm
    • Returns to throwing
Kershaw (shoulder) has started throwing again Tuesday after experiencing shoulder soreness last week, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: After being shut down for one week due to feeling soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder, Kershaw said he was relieved an MRI didn't reveal any new damage. The southpaw added that he received some shots to help alleviate discomfort and that he is hopeful the pause in his rehab will not push his timeline back too much. Rotowire.com Today, 3:33 pm

    • Lands on injured list
The Diamondbacks placed Montgomery on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to June 29, due to right knee inflammation.

Advice: Montgomery was tagged for eight runs (four earned) during his start Thursday against the Twins, though it's unclear if the injury played a role in those results. The veteran left-hander will be eligible to be reinstated for the final game before the All-Star break July 14 versus the Blue Jays, but a return after the midseason festivities is likely more realistic. • Pitching behind opener
Nelson will pitch behind opener Joe Mantiply against the Dodgers on Tuesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Nelson surrendered six runs over 3.2 frames his last time out versus Minnesota, and he'll work behind an opener Tuesday for the second time this season. The right-hander has a 5.69 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB across 68 innings this year. Rotowire.com Today, 2:53 pm
    • Activated ahead of start
The Angels reinstated Soriano (abdomen) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 due to an infection in his abdomen, but he'll now return following a minimum-length stay to start against the Athletics. He could be under a pitch count during his first start back, but he'll still be in a position to succeed versus a weak Oakland offense. Andrew Wantz (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm

    • Angels activate José Soriano for Tuesday start
Angels activated RHP José Soriano from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Soriano will take the ball on Tuesday night against the division-rival Athletics after missing one start due to an abdominal infection. The 25-year-old righty has pitched well this season with a solid 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 60/28 K/BB ratio across 72 1/3 innings (14 appearances, 12 starts). He’s a worthy streaming option for fantasy managers, especially in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 2:45 pm

    • Kyle Harrison (ankle) throwing bullpen on Tuesday
Kyle Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: Harrison isn’t expected to require a minor league rehab assignment before returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix after suffering a right ankle sprain back in mid-June. It sounds like he could be back prior to the All-Star break, but that isn’t a lock. Rotoworld Today, 2:12 pm
    • Robbie Ray (elbow) to make rehab start Thursday
Robbie Ray (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Ray is progressing towards a midseason return to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix as he completes his rehabilitation from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 32-year-old southpaw is still capable of missing bats at a high level and is worthy of a speculative stash for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 2:10 pm

    • Casey Mize heading to IL with hamstring strain
Casey Mize (hamstring) will require a trip to the injured list.

Advice: Mize will officially land on the injured list at some point this week due to a left hamstring strain. No word yet on the severity of the issue, but the 27-year-old righty figures to be shelved until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 2:04 pm
