    • Gerrit Cole strikes out eight in no-decision Saturday
Gerrit Cole allowed four runs with eight strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Cole worked through two scoreless innings, including a base-loaded jam in the second that he escaped with a strikeout. A double, walk, and three base hits would bring three runs in to score for Boston in the third. Cole struck out the side in the fourth inning before Rafael Devers took him deep for a solo shot in the fifth. That would be it for Cole at 90 pitches. He struck out a season-high eight batters. Through four starts, the 33-year-old right-hander holds a 6.75 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and a 19/8 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Orioles in Baltimore on Friday. • Josh Winckowski gives up three runs in no-decision
Josh Winckowski allowed three runs with four strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Saturday.

Advice: Winckowski got the start for the Red Sox on Saturday and was chased by the fourth inning. Ben Rice took him deep for a solo homer to lead off the first inning. Winckowski worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second, then surrendered a two-run homer to Alex Verdugo in the third. He allowed a leadoff double in the fourth inning and recorded the first two outs before his day was done at 66 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 3.23 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and a 32/14 K/BB ratio across 39 innings. He’s currently lined up for a start against the Royals in Boston on Friday. • Records ninth steal
Winn went 1-for-6 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Nationals.

Advice: Winn hadn't recorded a steal since June 4, though he has nine thefts on 12 attempts this season. The shortstop is hitting .279 (17-for-61) over his last 14 games, a slight dip from his .291 batting average overall. He's added a .756 OPS, four home runs, 29 RBI, 35 runs scored, 18 doubles and three triples over 79 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 10:16 am

    • Out again Saturday
Smith (glute) isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Smith missed four games in June due to glute tightness, and he'll be missing his second consecutive game Saturday due to the same injury. Jonathan Ornelas will pick up another start at third base and bat ninth while Smith continues to recover. Rotowire.com Today, 9:45 am

    • Josh Smith remains out Saturday with glute issue
Josh Smith (lower body) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Rays.

Advice: Smith remains on the bench to open Saturday’s showdown after sitting out Friday’s game against the Rays due to glute tightness. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward, but the Rangers clearly don’t want to take any chances here. It’ll be Jonathan Ornelas drawing another start at the hot corner in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Today, 9:43 am

    • Nabs steal No. 20
Thomas went 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: The 28-year-old stole a career-high 20 bags in 157 games last season, but Thomas has massively ramped up his aggressiveness on the basepaths in 2024. Through only 59 contests, he's already matched those 20 steals in 26 attempts. He's also regaining last year's form at the plate, and over his last 15 games he's slashing .266/.329/.469 with nine of his 17 hits (six doubles, two triples and a homer) going for extra bases. • Fans eight in no-decision
Cortes came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The southpaw was at his baffling best, tossing 68 of 97 pitches for strikes and leaving the mound in line for his fifth win of the season. A blown save by Clay Holmes forced Cortes to settle for his ninth quality start, and he'll take a 3.41 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 106:20 K:BB through 111 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay. • Pummels three homers
Smith went 3-for-3 with three solo home runs, two walks and four total runs scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Smith hit just two homers in June, so he's already off to a fantastic start in July. The catcher went to the opposite field for his first-inning blast before pulling his solo shots in the third and seventh innings. Smith is up to a .276/.349/.502 slash line with 14 homers, 53 RBI, 45 runs scored, 18 doubles and one triple over 73 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:24 pm

    • Michael Lorenzen combines on shutout of Rays
Michael Lorenzen pitched around five walks to shut out the Rays for five innings in the Rangers’ 3-0 victory Friday.

Advice: Lorenzen surrendered just one hit, a double off the bat of Brandon Lowe. It wound up being a three-hit shutout for the Rangers’ pitching staff, with José Leclerc, Jacob Latz, David Robertson and Kirby Yates combining to finish the effort. Lorenzen is now 5-4 with a 3.21 ERA. It will be interesting to see if the Rangers choose to move him with Tyler Mahle, Cody Bradford and Jacob deGrom all seemingly on the way back.
