      Advice: Mountcastle got the Orioles on the board in the third inning with a solo shot off Carlos Rodon, tying the game 1-1. He'd add a second RBI with a base hit in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1, before scoring on a Jordan Westburg triple. It was a nice finish to the series for the 27-year-old Mountcastle, who'd gone 0-for-12 in the first three games against New York.       Edwin Díaz hurled two scoreless innings against the Cubs on Thursday.

      Advice: It comes in a non-save situation, but fantasy managers who roster Díaz get to see their ERA drop with the scoreless frames. He also picked up a pair of strikeouts, and that improves his K/BB to 19/4 over 12 2/3 innings. There really hasn’t been much — if any — rust to shake off for Díaz after missing all of 2023.       Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a 7-2 win for the Orioles over the Yankees on Thursday.

      Advice: Mountcastle tied the game at 1-1 with his solo homer off Carlos Rodón in the third inning. That’s the fifth homer of the year, and his RBI single in the fifth brings that total to 16.       MLP Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo reports Paul Skenes will make his next start on Sunday for Triple-A Indianapolis.

      Advice: There was some social media buzz that Skenes could get the call this weekend to join Pittsburgh’s starting rotation, but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards. The 21-year-old top pitching prospect has reeled off six dominant outings at Triple-A Indianapolis to open the year, posting a surreal 0.39 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 41/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings of work.       Skenes' next start will come Sunday at Triple-A Indianapolis against Buffalo.

      Advice: Skenes got stretched out to six innings and 75 pitches in his last outing with Indianapolis on Tuesday, leading some to wonder whether his next start might come with the Pirates. However, he is set to remain with Indy for at least one more turn. Skenes has been utterly dominant against Triple-A hitters, posting a 0.39 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 23 innings.       Montgomery (1-2) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over three innings while striking out one.

      Advice: It wasn't Montgomery's night as the lefty got pounded for five runs in the second inning after failing to retire six batters in a row, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. He allowed a season-high two home runs in the contest and posted just one strikeout, giving him an 8:4 K:BB through his first three starts. Montgomery produced only three swinging strikes on the night and has yet to record more than four strikeouts in an outing, despite going six or more innings on two occasions.       Iglesias gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: It wasn't the sharpest appearance for Iglesias, who put two batters on base before getting an out, but he settled down and took care of the heart of Seattle's order without too much more trouble. The right-hander has converted eight of his nine save chances to begin the year while posting a typically stingy 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but there are signs Iglesias isn't quite in peak form -- his 94.5 mph average fastball is his lowest velocity since 2016, and his 18.0 percent strikeout rate is a massive drop from the 29.4 percent mark he delivered last season.       Jordan Montgomery allowed six runs over three innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Montgomery had pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but was tagged for six runs against the Dodgers. Andy Pages got the scoring started with a two-run homer. Two doubles, a walk, and a base hit brought three more in to score before the end of the frame. Will Smith added a solo homer to lead off the third. Montgomery would complete the inning, but that would be it. The 31-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and an 8/4 K/BB ratio across 16 innings.     • Nico Hoerner reaches three times against Mets
      Nico Hoerner went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base on Wednesday in a 1-0 win over the Mets.

      Advice: Hoerner knocked a double in the first inning, then a single in the fifth. He drew a walk in the eighth to reach for a third time and stole second for his second steal of the season. Hoerner has hit out of the leadoff spot for the Cubs over the last two weeks, with both steals coming over that span. The 26-year-old second baseman is hitting .272/.349/.360 with 18 runs scored across 129 plate appearances. Hitting leadoff would help his stolen base rate if he can hold the top spot in the lineup.
