    • Hitless in return
Carter started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Carter returned to the starting lineup for the first time since May 8 after dealing with lower-back soreness. He had served as a pinch hitter in each of the previous two games and played left field for the final six innings of Saturday's 13-inning win. Rotowire.com Today, 5:42 am
    • Yields one hit over seven frames
Manoah (1-1) picked up the win Sunday against Tampa Bay, allowing one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts across seven scoreless innings.

Advice: After surrendering six runs in his 2024 debut, Manoah has fired back-to-back seven-inning starts without an earned run. Over those two starts, Manoah has punched out 13 batters and yielded five hits and a pair of walks. He'll look to keep rolling in next start, which tentatively lines up for Friday at Detroit. • Road struggles continue
Kirby (4-4) suffered the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Kirby was tagged for a solo homer by Gunnar Henderson to lead off the game and eventually allowed five runs and two homers through three innings before settling down and making it through six frames with no additional damage. It was the first time in seven starts Kirby has allowed more than five hits, while the five earned runs lifted Kirby's ERA to 3.99 over 56.1 innings and 5.19 over 26 innings on the road. Kirby's next start is also slated to take place on the road, though in a much friendlier matchup, as he's tentatively lined up to take on the Nationals in Washington next weekend. • George Kirby gives up two homers in loss
George Kirby surrendered five runs in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Kirby seemed pretty unlucky in a couple of his early-season starts that left him with an inflated ERA, but the Orioles knocked him around pretty good today. He allowed two homers among 11 hard-hit balls, and he struck out only three. The loss leaves him 4-4 with a 3.99 ERA, though his ERA is 2.50 over his last six starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:54 pm
    • Alek Manoah lights out in win over Rays
Alek Manoah struck out seven Rays across seven scoreless innings in a 5-2 win on Sunday. He allowed just one hit, gave up one walk, and earned his first win of the season.

Advice: Manoah looked fantastic on Sunday attacking the Rays hitters with his patented slider, sinker combo. Control is paramount for Manoah with his east-west arsenal as he works his way back into a groove. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:44 pm
    • Taking on 'fluid' role
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Diaz's bullpen role will be more "fluid" for the near future, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 30-year-old surrendered four runs in his third blown save of the season Saturday and admitted that his confidence is down with seven runs allowed in his past three outings, so the Mets won't rely on him to be their primary closer for a bit. Diaz is still viewed as the club's closer long term but is now likely to see some lower-leverage work in an attempt to get him back on track. Adam Ottavino and Reed Garrett are the likely candidates to step in for save chances in the meantime. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:32 pm
    • Back in lineup Sunday
Carter (back) is in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Carter has been available off the bench for the last two games against Los Angeles, but he will return to left field for the first time since May 8 as Texas finishes out its series. The lefty-batting outfielder is slashing .211/.301/.406 with 15 RBI and five home runs across 142 plate appearances so far this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:47 am
    • Escobar: Edwin Díaz’s role with Mets is ‘fluid’
Mets manager Carlos Escobar told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track. • Remains out Sunday
Hoerner (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Make it six straight absences for Hoerner, who continues to nurse a sore left hamstring. He was still hoping to avoid the injured list as of Friday, but it's reasonable to think Hoerner to the IL could be the move to accommodate the return of Dansby Swanson (knee) on Tuesday. Nick Madrigal has been serving as the Cubs' primary second baseman in Hoerner's absence. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:40 am
