    • Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that Luzardo, who was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Saturday with a lumbar stress reaction, will likely be out for 4-to-6 weeks, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Luzardo's back issue cropped up during his previous start last Sunday in Washington, but he had been on track to start Saturday's game against the Mariners until the Marlins scratched him a day in advance. He was moved to the IL a day later, with Schumaker confirming prior to Saturday's contest that the southpaw will be sidelined through at least the All-Star break with the injury. With the Marlins shaping up as non-contenders this season, Luzardo had been a sought-after name on the trade market, but his uncertain health could limit other teams' interest leading up to the July 30 deadline. Luzardo owns a 5.00 ERA over 12 starts on the season, but he's had shown improved form since late April with a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 46.2 innings over his last eight outings. • Jones strikes out eight in seven innings in win
Jared Jones allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Pirates’ 4-3 victory over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: Jones gave up three hits, walked three and struck out eight. Tampa Bay couldn’t get much offense going against Jones. The Rays scored on an RBI groundout by Josh Lowe in the first inning and an RBI single by Ben Rortvedt in the fourth inning. The win was his fifth of the season. Jones’ ERA is down to 3.66 with a SO:BB of 93:25 this year. The 22-year-old rookie right-hander is set to face the Braves on the road next weekend.

    • Jared Jones fires seven strong in win over Rays
Jared Jones struck out eight while allowing two runs in seven innings Saturday to get a win over the Rays.

Advice: Jones gave up just three hits, and while he did issue three walks, the strikeouts were able to get him out of the majority of jams. The only blemishes were a fielder’s choice that scored a run in the first and an RBI single by Ben Rortvedt in the fourth. The rookie right-hander continues to impress, and his ERA is now a solid 3.66. Jones gets Atlanta next weekend. Rotoworld Today, 3:15 pm

    • Red Sox activate Wilyer Abreu for Saturday return
Red Sox activated OF Wilyer Abreu from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Abreu returns to Boston’s lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Reds after missing a couple weeks recovering from a right ankle sprain. The 24-year-old corner outfielder has been excellent defensively this season and also holds an .829 OPS with six homers and seven steals in 189 plate appearances over 53 games. • Activated from IL, back in lineup
The Red Sox reinstated Abreu (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Abreu will start in right field and bat second against the Reds on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Abreu landed on the injured list June 4 after twisting his right ankle in the dugout against the Tigers on June 2. He began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and went 3-for-12 with two solo home runs across his three outings. Prior to his injury, Abreu was slashing .272/.344/.485 with six home runs and 22 RBI while sporting an .829 OPS. To make room for Abreu, utility man Bobby Dalbec was optioned to Triple-A Worcester. • Jesús Luzardo out 4-6 weeks with back ailment
Marlins placed LHP Jesús Luzardo on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 19, with a lumbar stress reaction.

Advice: Luzardo finds himself on the injured list for the second time this season and the timing is tricky with the trade deadline looming large in a couple weeks. The 26-year-old southpaw is expected to be one of the most highly-coveted names at the deadline, but it’s going to take a considerable haul to pry him away from Miami since he won’t be a free agent until 2027. Marlins manager Skip Schumaker told reporters Luzardo is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks, which puts his potential return sometime after next month’s All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 9:32 am
    • Athletics lose Abraham Toro (hamstring) to IL
Athletics placed INF Abraham Toro on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.

Advice: It’s a tough break for Toro, who has done a nice job this season for Oakland, batting .260/.303/.386 with six homers and three steals in 295 plate appearances over 73 games. The 27-year-old infielder is going to wind up missing at least a few weeks, even if it’s only a low-grade hamstring strain. Rotoworld Today, 9:21 am

    • Lands on IL with strained hamstring
The Athletics placed Toro on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a strained right hamstring.

Advice: Toro returned to the lineup Friday after missing the three previous games due to a shoulder strain. He went 1-for-3 with a run and one walk in Friday's 6-5 win over the Twins, but he was replaced by Tyler Nevin in the top of the seventh inning due to the hamstring strain. Nevin and Aledmys Diaz should see increased playing time with Toro sidelined, as could Armando Alvarez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. • Headed to injured list
The Marlins placed Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a lumbar stress reaction.

Advice: Though he battled a stiff back in his most recent outing this past Sunday in Washington, Luzardo had been listed as the Marlins' starter for Saturday's game versus the Mariners. The southpaw evidently didn't bounce back as well from the back injury as the team had hoped, and he's since been scratched from the start and placed on the IL. Miami has recalled Shaun Anderson from Triple-A Jacksonville to make a spot start Saturday in Luzardo's stead. The 26-year-old will be eligible to return from the IL on July 4, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to go by that time. Rotowire.com Today, 9:10 am
