    • Bags seventh save
Kopech earned the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rockies, pitching a scoreless inning and working around a walk.

Advice: The 28-year-old entered the ninth with a two-run lead and looked to immediately be in danger as he opened with six-pitch walk to Ryan McMahon. However, Kopech induced two consecutive groudouts, including one of the double-play variety, to escape with just his second save in June. The Chicago right-hander lowered his season ERA to 4.46 over 34.1 innings as he appears to have seized control of the closer's role over John Brebbia for the time being. • Handed tough-luck loss
Montas (3-6) allowed a run on two hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against St. Louis.

Advice: Montas gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Alec Burleson in the third inning but otherwise didn't face too much trouble. However, the Reds were shut out by the Cardinals and Montas was stuck with the loss. He generated 17 whiffs, his second-highest total of the year. He's produced back-to-back quality starts and has three in five outings this month. Montas lowered his season ERA to 4.23 with a 58:30 K:BB through 72.1 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the Yankees. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

    • Secures second victory
Thorpe (2-1) earned the win Friday versus Colorado, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: The Chicago right-hander shined in this outing, allowing just three baserunners en route to his second straight quality start. The only blemish on Thorpe's performance was a two-run homer allowed to Brenton Doyle in the sixth inning. Over his first four career starts, the White Sox rookie sports a 4.43 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 13:12 K:BB across 20.1 innings. He's currently slated to make his next appearance against the Guardians in Cleveland. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

    • Kenta Maeda gets no-decision against Angels
Kenta Maeda didn’t qualify for a decision after giving up two runs in 5 1/3 innings of work Friday against the Angels.

Advice: Maeda scattered six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The only scoring blow was a two-run homer by Luis Rengifo, but outside of that the 36-year-old was solid for the majority of the outing. There haven’t been enough of those thus far in 2024, as even with the solid outing his ERA sits at an unhealthy 5.76. A chance to lower that is scheduled for next Thursday against the Twins. • Plesac lasts just 2 2/3 in no-decision vs. Tigers
Zach Plesac went just 2 2/3 innings while giving up two runs in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday.

Advice: Plesac couldn’t throw strikes — at least on a consistent basis — as he waked four batters and landing just 29-of-57 pitches in the zone. The right-hander just hasn’t shown quality command in his last two outings, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll be relevant for fantasy managers even if he stays in the rotation. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

    • Cracks homer, swipes bag in loss
Doyle went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a steal in Friday's 5-3 loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The 26-year-old gave Colorado a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when a launched a 426-foot, two-run homer off Drew Thorpe. Doyle later bagged his team-leading 19th stolen base, marking his fifth straight success since last being caught June 5. The Rockies' leadoff hitter hopes this performance spurs a hot streak, as he entered hitting .235 (19-for-81) with just two extra-base hits -- one homer and one double -- across 22 games in June. • Andre Pallante combines on shutout of Reds
Andre Pallante pitched 5 1/3 innings and combined with four relievers on a 1-0 shutout of the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Pallante allowed four hits and walked three, but the Reds couldn’t push a run across against him or anyone else. It’s the third time in his six starts that he’s gone without allowing a run. He’s given up 12 earned runs over 11 2/3 innings in those remaining three starts, but he’s shown enough to stick in the rotation for now. Rotoworld Today, 8:55 pm

    • Frankie Montas takes tough loss in 1-0 game
Frankie Montas limited the Cardinals to one run and two hits over six innings in a losing cause Friday.

Advice: Montas wasn’t as strong as the line suggests; he allowed nine hard-hit balls and two would have been homers had this been a home game. Since it was played in St. Louis instead, Nolan Gorman had a flyout on a ball that was a homer in 24 parks and Michael Siani settled for a double on a shot that was a homer in 12 parks. • Santiago Espinal designated hitless in loss
Santiago Espinal went 0-for-4 as the Reds’ DH in the shutout loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: We’re not saying it tops “for sale: baby shoes, never worn,” but “Santiago Espinal, designated hitter” is also an awfully sad story and is two entire words shorter. The Cincinnati lineup tonight was a product of the Reds keeping Jeimer Candelario and Jake Fraley in injury limbo for the third straight game; neither could even DH tonight, but the Reds still didn’t want to commit to IL stints. Espinal is currently batting .198/.246/.287 in... wait, that can’t be right... 187 plate appearances? Rotoworld Today, 8:54 pm
