    • Getting start Monday sans Jansen
Kirk will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Kirk should be in store for at least two starts in the four-game series with the Astros while top backstop Danny Jansen likely misses the maximum three games after being placed on the paternity list Monday. Even though Jansen remains atop the depth chart, Kirk had been making a case for more playing time by going 4-for-12 with two doubles, two RBI and a run over his last three starts. • Blue Jays promote Brian Serven to active roster
Blue Jays recalled Brian Serven from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: With Danny Jansen going on the paternity list, Serven will be called up to backup Alejandro Kirk. The 29-year-old is hitting .270/.396/.391 with three home runs in 34 games in Triple-A, but he should only be up for a few days. Rotoworld Monday, 7:47 am

    • Rehab assignment put on pause
Davis had his rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona put on hold over the weekend after he experienced recurring concussion symptoms, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Initially placed on the 7-day injured list June 15 after experiencing concussion-like symptoms a day earlier in the Pirates' win over the Rockies, Davis was cleared to begin his rehab assignment last Wednesday. However, after appearing in two games with Altoona, Davis suffered an apparent setback and is now without a clear timeline to resume the assignment. With Joey Bart beating Davis back from the 10-day IL on Sunday, the Pirates may not have room for Davis on the big-league roster once his concussion symptoms subside and he's cleared to return from the 7-day IL. • Back with big club
The Blue Jays recalled Serven from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Advice: Serven will be the Blue Jays' No. 2 catcher behind Alejandro Kirk while Danny Jansen (personal) is on paternity leave. Serven was hitless in eight at-bats during a brief stint with the big club to begin the season. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:03 am

    • Expected back this week
Moreno (thumb) is expected to be activated ahead of a three-game series against the Dodgers beginning Tuesday, Arizona Sports reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks designated Tucker Barnhart on Sunday, which indicates Moreno should be ready to go Tuesday after catching in a rehab game at the Arizona Complex League over the weekend. With Barnhart designated, the Diamondbacks will roll with Jose Herrera as the backup catcher. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:16 am
    • Logs three hits in loss
Naylor went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Naylor has a pair of three-hit efforts over his last five games, but he went 0-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts in between those contests. The catcher has started to show a bit more life with the bat, hitting .286 (14-for-49) with eight extra-base hits over 16 contests in June, though he also struck out 15 times. Naylor's at a .207/.274/.335 slash line with four home runs, 17 RBI, 22 runs scored, one stolen base, nine doubles and one triple through 197 plate appearances this year. His playing time has rebounded after dipping in late May and early June, but Naylor will need to continue to make a good effort due to David Fry being around to poach starts behind the dish. • Designated for assignment
Barnhart was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Barnhart will now be placed on waivers and the other 29 teams in the league will have an opportunity to claim him. The catcher has produced a .173 average with two doubles, six RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base over 81 at-bats in 31 games with Arizona this season. With Barnhart's disappointing output at the plate this year, he'll be the odd man out with Gabriel Moreno (thumb) expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Jose Herrera will operate as the primary backup behind Moreno at catcher with the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:07 pm
    • Diamondbacks to DFA Tucker Barnhart
The Diamondbacks have decided to move on from Tucker Barnhart with Gabriel Moreno coming off the IL on Tuesday.

Advice: Barnhart will be DFA’d, with Jose Herrera sticking around as Moreno’s backup. The 33-year-old has hit just .173/.287/.210 this season, though it’s not like that should have surprised the Diamondbacks; he came in at .215/.286/.264 the previous two years. Rotoworld Sunday, 6:56 pm
    • Henry Davis (concussion) sees rehab stint paused
Henry Davis is having his rehab stint put on hold as he attempts to return from a concussion.

Advice: Davis was 0-for-6 with five strikeouts since joining Double-A Altoona on Wednesday. Expectations are that he’ll be optioned to Triple-A once healthy. Rotoworld Sunday, 6:21 pm
