    • Marmol: Willson Contreras ‘fine’ after early exit
Willson Contreras was lifted from Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks for precautionary reasons due to left hand discomfort.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters following Tuesday’s lopsided defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks that Contreras is fine and that the club merely didn’t want to take any chances in a one-sided contest after he felt some discomfort in his bruised left hand. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
    • Phillips gets eventful save against WAS
Evan Phillips threw a scoreless ninth inning to secure a 4-1 win over the Nationals, despite allowing three walks and one hit.

Advice: Yes, Phillips allowed four baserunners and no runs. With runners on first and second, CJ Abrams laced a single to right field, but the Nationals third base coach put up a late stop sign that saw Luis Garcia Jr. get caught in a rundown between third and home. After Garcia was tagged out, Phillips walked Eddie Rosario to load the bases but struck out Jesse Winker to end the game. It took 32 pitches, but Phillips secured his sixth save of the year and lowered his ERA to 0.96. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
    • Witt doubles, drives in two vs. Blue Jays
Bobby Witt Jr. was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Royals’ win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Advice: Witt was integral to a three-run fifth inning for the Royals, who had been held scoreless until that point. His double plated Maikel Garcia and Kyle Isbel to give the Royals a 3-2 lead, which proved to be just what they needed to escape with the win over Kevin Gausman and the Jays. Witt’s bat continues to stay hot, as he’s now hit in four straight games.

    • Gausman allows zero earned runs in loss to Royals
Kevin Gausman struck out two batters over 6 2/3 innings in the Blue Jays’ 3-2 loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

Advice: Gausman was solid through six innings but was burnt by a three-run fifth in which he was charged with zero of the three runs the Royals drove in. Despite getting saddled with the loss, Tuesday’s outing was arguably the best of the year for Gausman. In addition to not allowing an earned run, his 6 2/3 innings pitched also marked a season-high. Gausman allowed 12 earned runs through his first three starts but has allowed only one in his last two games. Hopefully, rounding into form, he’ll look to turn in another strong outing on Sunday against the Dodgers and get off this 0-3 start. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

    • Pepiot gets tough luck no decision vs DET
Ryan Pepiot allowed one run on three hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Pepiot struck out four and walked two on the evening but got no help from his offense. It wasn’t an overwhelming effort with a 22 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW, but Pepiot continued to pound the top of the strike zone with his four-seam fastball, which has been a big improvement now that he’s in Tampa. He simply didn’t have command of his slider tonight, keeping it up in the zone and missing his spots too often. He should be started against almost every opponent, including next week against the Brewers. Rotoworld Today, 6:53 pm

    • Elly has HR and SB in win over Phillies
Elly De La Cruz went 1-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base in an 8-1 win over the Phillies.

Advice: It’s been quite the beginning of the season for Elly, who is now slashing .295/.402/.641 with seven home runs and 12 steals. Honestly, the on-base percentage may be the most impressive number. After struggling with his plate discipline last year, the 22-year-old has made incredible strides in 2024 with 13 walks in 23 games. He will likely always run some high strikeout rates, but he is consistently putting himself in a position to do damage with better swing decisions and fantasy managers are reaping the benefits. If the plate discipline remains, there is no reason to think he’s not a first-round fantasy pick. Rotoworld Today, 6:41 pm

    • Willson Contreras leaves game early on Tuesday
Willson Contreras left Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks with an apparent injury.

Advice: Contreras was 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a walk before appearing to suffer some sort of left side or left hand injury while grounding out in the fifth inning. It’s worth noting that the Cardinals were trailing by nine runs at the time, so it’s possible they just didn’t want to take any chances with him behind the plate for the remainder of the night. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Today, 6:24 pm
    • José Ramírez homers, Guardians roll past Red Sox
José Ramírez walloped a solo homer on Tuesday, powering the Guardians to a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox.

Advice: Ramírez doubled Cleveland’s lead with an eighth-inning solo shot off Red Sox reliever Cam Booser. It was his fourth round-tripper of the season. He’s started to heat up over the last few contests, recording at least one hit in seven of his last eight games since April 14, and also has a pair of big flies during that span. • Could throw off mound next week
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole (elbow) could begin throwing off a mound sometime next week, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Cole extended his flat-ground throwing to 120 feet Tuesday, which is typically the farthest distance from which a pitcher plays catch before he gets on a mound. While nothing definitive has been decided in regard to a bullpen session, it sounds like one could be coming within the next week or so. Cole is working his way back from nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Rotowire.com Today, 1:30 pm
