    • Homers in Wednesday's loss
Rocchio went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-2 loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Rocchio has been decent lately, batting .267 with a pair of extra-base hits over his last 11 games. The shortstop is up to three homers this season, all of which have been in his last 21 contests. He still has a lackluster .218/.313/.315 slash line overall, but he's been trending in the right direction as gets more major-league experience. Rocchio has added 16 RBI, 34 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 73 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:55 am
    • Taking BP with Double-A affiliate
Edman (wrist) will take live batting practice Friday and Saturday at Double-A Springfield, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: If that goes well, Edman should be cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Springfield. Edman was recently set back a few days by a sprained ankle, but that appears to be a non-issue now. The Cardinals had been hoping to get Edman back prior to the All-Star break, but it's possible the little hiccup with the ankle last week will convince the club to push Edman's return back until the start of the second half. He's been out all season while recovering from wrist surgery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 am

    • Scratched from lineup
Bichette was scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros due to a right forearm contusion, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bichette was hit by a pitch in the area during Wednesday's contest and felt some residual soreness while working out pregame Thursday. Consider him day-to-day. Leo Jimenez will slide over to shortstop and Spencer Horwitz will enter the lineup at second base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:11 am

    • Moves up to No. 3 spot
Merrill will start in center field and bat third in Thursday's game versus the Rangers.

Advice: Merrill had one start out of the leadoff spot back in mid-April and batted fifth a couple times last month, but this will be his first-ever start from the third spot in the Padres' batting order. The rookie outfielder has earned the assignment by slashing a robust .352/.380/.727 with nine home runs, 21 RBI and two stolen bases over his last 23 games. Jake Cronenworth has typically hit third since Fernando Tatis (quad) went down and has a day off Thursday, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Merrill receive more opportunities from the middle of the San Diego batting order. • Jackson Merrill hitting 3rd for Padres
Jackson Merrill is starting in center field and batting third for the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: This is Merrill’s first start as a three-hole hitter and it’s certainly earned after he hit .320/.346/.650 in June with nine home runs, 17 runs, 20 RBI, and two steals in 28 games. If that power holds up and he continues to hit in the middle of the order, his fantasy stock will rise dramatically. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:02 am
    • Otto Lopez lands on IL with back injury
Marlins placed INF Otto Lopez on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation.

Advice: Lopez has been starting regularly at second base before sitting out the last three games with his back injury. Vidal Brujan has been playing second in Lopez’s absence and should continue to see every day at bats while Lopez is out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:51 am

    • José Tena sent back to the minors
Guardians optioned INF José Tena to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: The 23-year-old had just four plate appearances in three games with the Guardians this season, and he will head to the minors with Angel Martinez coming up. Tena will return to an impressive .293/.341/.480 slash line with 14 home runs and 10 steals in 73 games this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:42 am

    • Guardians recall Angel Martínez on Thursday
Guardians recalled INF Angel Martínez from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Martínez went 2-for-7 in his first taste of major league action earlier this season and was hitting .316/.416/.537 at Triple-A with five home runs and two steals in 26 games. The 22-year-old is one of the Guardians’ top-hitting prospects, so there is a chance he could find himself with a decent amount of playing time in this stint with the big club. However, he is a contact-first player who has never hit over 14 home runs or stolen more than 11 bases in any season, so his fantasy ceiling might not be that high. • Anthony Volpe out of the leadoff spot Thursday
Anthony Volpe is batting sixth on Thursday against the Reds.

Advice: It’s the first time since April 10th that Volpe will be in the lineup and not be leading off. However, it appears to be a move that was a long time coming. Since Volpe moved into the leadoff spot, he has had the worst on-base percentage among every Yankees player with at least 250 plate appearances. He also ranks as the third-worst leadoff hitter in baseball with his 87 wRC+. Considering the Yankees’ lead-off hitter bats in front of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, the team needs somebody who can consistently get on base and be driven in by those two studs. Ben Rice will get that shot on Thursday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:16 am
