    • Jack Flaherty to start on Friday against Blue Jays
Jack Flaherty will start Friday’s series opener against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Flaherty has been dealing with a lingering back issue for the last few weeks, but it appears that he’s ready to roll at the outset of the second half after tossing six innings of one-run ball last Thursday against the Guardians to close out the first half. It’ll be Reese Olson and Keider Montero following him this weekend in Toronto for the rest of the series. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:44 pm
    • Plays full nine on defense
Ruiz (wrist) started in center field and played nine innings in the ACL Athletics' extra-inning loss to the ACL Brewers on Tuesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Advice: While Ruiz's rehab-assignment hot streak at the plate was ironically snapped against a much lower caliber of competition than he normally faces, but the fact the outfielder played a full game's worth of innings on defense is the main takeaway. After logging 21 plate appearances over five games down on the farm, Ruiz may be deemed ready for activation ahead of the Athletics' game of the second half Friday against the Angels. • Michael Harris II likely back in August
The Athletic’s David O’Brien reported that Michael Harris II (hamstring) is “likely returning by early August.”

Advice: The 23-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain on June 15th and is still working his way through baseball activities. Given the length of his absence, he will likely require a rehab assignment as well, which means it might be at least three weeks before Harris returns to the Braves lineup, in the best-case scenario. • Unlikely to return until August
Harris (hamstring) is still at least two or three weeks away from returning from the 10-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The center fielder has yet to begin a rehab assignment as he recovers from a hamstring strain that's sidelined him since June 14. Harris was slashing a disappointing .250/.295/.358 prior to the injury, and in his absence, Jarred Kelenic has seized firm hold of the leadoff job. When Harris gets activated from the IL, expect him to hit in the bottom half of the order. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:49 am

    • Esteury Ruiz (wrist) starts rehab assignment
Esteury Ruiz (wrist) went 0-for-4 on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Ruiz has been out since late May recovering from a left wrist strain. The 25-year-old speedster has underwhelmed this season to an alarming degree on the heels of last year’s 67-steal rookie season. There isn’t much of a roadblock to at-bats at the highest level, but the Athletics have been hesitant to give him an extended opportunity this season, even when he’s been healthy. • Not playing in All-Star Game
Correa (heel) was removed Monday from the American League All-Star Game roster and was replaced by the Rangers' Corey Seager, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Though Correa is still expected to attend All-Star festivities in Arlington, Texas this week, his removal from the roster comes as little surprise after he missed the Twins' final two games before the break due to plantar fasciitis in his right heel. Dan Hayes of The Athletic relays that Correa's latest case of plantar fasciitis isn't as severe as his bout with the injury to his left foot during 2023 season, but it's not yet clear whether Correa will be back in action when the Twins return to action Saturday versus the Brewers. • Out of All-Star Game with thumb injury
Arraez will attend All-Star festivities in Texas but won't play for the National League in Tuesday's game due to a jammed left thumb, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Arraez first hurt the thumb while sliding into third base June 25. He has played in all but two of San Diego's games since then, most recently sitting out Sunday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta. While Arraez has mostly been able to remain in the lineup despite the injury, he admitted that the thumb hurts "a lot" when he swings and catches the ball. The issue probably won't be anything that causes him to miss much, if any, additional time in games that count, but he'll use the All-Star break to rest the jammed thumb rather than risking further injury in the exhibition contest. • Multi-hit effort in rehab game
Ruiz (wrist) played seven innings in left field Sunday in a rehab game with Single-A Stockton, going 2-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Advice: Ruiz had gotten Saturday off after playing a full game at DH on Friday, but he encouragingly put in another robust workload on defense Sunday. Ruiz's mastery over Single-A arms continued as well, as he hit safely for the fourth time in as many rehab games. It's certainly possible Ruiz may be deemed ready for activation coming out of the All-Star break despite not having made any appearances at a higher-level affiliate during his assignment. • Aaron Judge to bat cleanup for AL All-Stars
Aaron Judge will bat cleanup for the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

Advice: It seems Bruce Bochy disagrees with Aaron Boone in using Judge as a No. 2 hitter. He has Judge batting behind Steven Kwan, Gunnar Henderson and Juan Soto on Tuesday, so unless someone gets on base, we’ll miss out on a Paul Skenes-Judge matchup. Rounding out the lineup behind Judge will be Yordan Alvarez, José Ramírez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Adley Rutschman and Marcus Semien. Rotoworld Monday, 1:12 pm
