• Steals two bags in Wednesday's win
Garcia went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: The 23-year-old stole a career-high nine bases last year, and Garcia's already 3-for-3 on the basepaths to begin 2024. After looking like his starting job at second base might be in jeopardy this spring, Garcia's come out of the gate slashing .294/.321/.490 through 16 games with seven doubles, a homer, four runs and eight RBI. He's also been working his way into a better spot in the batting order against right-handers, and he hit cleanup Wednesday. If he stays in the heart of the lineup, Garcia's counting-stat production should pick up. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • Royals option Nick Loftin to Triple-A
Royals optioned INF Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Loftin did a nice job filling in for Michael Massey by going 8-for-29 (.276 AVG) with six RBI and only five strike outs. The 25-year-old could have another opportunity if there is another injury to Kansas City’s infield. The Royals didn’t announce it, but with this move, it’s more likely than not that Michael Massey will return from the injured list and start his season against the Orioles this weekend. • Close to return
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Sborz (shoulder) threw a bullpen session earlier this week and could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list when he's first eligible for activation Monday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. "He's doing well," Bochy said. "Sborz is on his way...talking to him, he feels great, his pain is down."

Advice: Sborz was placed on the IL on April 7 with a right rotator cuff strain, but his injury doesn't appear to be an overly significant one. Bochy didn't explicitly outline the next steps for Sborz, but if the righty is able to face hitters in a live batting practice session this weekend, he may be able to return from the IL without heading out on a rehab assignment beforehand. Prior to being shut down with the injury, Sborz tossed 2.2 scoreless innings across his three relief appearances. He should be a key part of the bridge to the ninth inning once he's activated. • Expected back Friday
Massey (back) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Anne Rogers reports.

Advice: Nick Loftin was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday and Massey is expected to be activated in a corresponding move ahead of the Royals' weekend series against the Orioles. Massey has been out all season with a lower-back injury but slashed .382/.417/.706 with two home runs in eight rehab games between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 26-year-old should share playing time at second base with Adam Frazier once activated. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
  • Smacks fifth homer
Abrams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: He drove the second big-league pitch of Landon Knack's career over the fence in right-center field, giving the Nats all the offense they would need as Jake irvin and the bullpen combined for a shutout. Abrams launched a career-high 18 homers in 2023 but he's well ahead of that pace to begin this season, slashing .295/.358/.656 with five home runs, three steals, 10 runs and 11 RBI in 15 games. • Mets option Grant Hartwig to Triple-A
Mets optioned RHP Grant Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Hartwig will head back to Syracuse after the Mets placed Michael Tonkin on the active roster. The 26-year-old made one appearance with the Mets this week and pitched one inning and didn’t allow a hit. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
  • Sent to Triple-A
The Royals optioned Loftin to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Advice: The transaction likely clears the way for infielder Michael Massey (back) to be activated from the 10-day injured list, but the Royals will wait until shortly before Friday's game against the Orioles before announcing a corresponding move. Loftin has slashed .276/.371/.276 over 13 games in a part-time role for Kansas City this season. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Goes yard for first time in 2024
Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.

Advice: His sixth-inning shot down the left-field line helped break the game open for the Mets. It was Bader's first homer with the club, and after a slow start at the plate to 2024, the 29-year-old has come alive by batting .385 (10-for-26) over his last seven games. The surge has lifted his slash line to .288/.327/.365 with three steals, five RBI and eight runs on the season. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago
  • Mets claim Michael Tonkin off waivers
Mets claimed RHP Michael Tonkin from the Twins and added him to the active roster.

Advice: He’s back. Tonkin was traded to the Twins earlier this month, but he made just one appearance with Minnesota and was placed on waivers this past weekend. The Mets decided to bring back the 34-year-old hurler to bolster its depth in the bullpen. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in his four innings of work with the Mets this regular season.
