  • Bailey Falter lit up for five runs against Dodgers
    Bailey Falter was torched for five runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

    Advice: Falter ran into a buzzsaw in the opening frame as Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup tagged him for four runs on five hits, with a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman accounting for the majority of the damage. He struck out six and also issued a pair of walks. The blowup outing snapped a streak of six consecutive starts in which he had allowed three earned runs or fewer dating back to May 5.   • Greene allows four, gets fourth win Thursday
    Hunter Greene allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings and got the win in the Reds’ 8-4 victory over the Cubs on Thursday.



    Advice: Greene gave up five hits, walked two and struck out eight. The win was his fourth in 13 starts this season. It was a bit of a mixed bag for Greene with two home runs allowed and eight strikeouts. He has a 3.61 ERA on the season, but a 4.23 xFIP.   • Edwin Díaz strikes out two in rehab appearance
    Edwin Díaz (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning on Thursday in a minor league rehab appearance for High-A Brooklyn.

    Advice: Díaz threw 14 pitches (11 strikes) and was reportedly touching 98 mph on his heater in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement that sent him to the injured list back in late May.   • Stanek pitches scoreless ninth to get save vs. A’s
    Ryne Stanek didn’t allow a hit while picking up a save Thursday against the Athletics.

    Advice: Stanek got the save chance with Andres Munoz (back) unavailable Thursday. The right-hander didn’t pick up a strikeout, but he was able to lower his ERA to 3.52 while procuring his fourth save of the season.   • Sears strikes out eight in loss to Mariners
    JP Sears gave up two runs in six innings with eight strikeouts in a loss Thursday to the Mariners.

    Advice: Sears was solid, but unfortunately got a goose egg in terms of run support while on the mound. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Dylan Moore with the bases loaded in the third and an RBI single to Mitch Garver an inning later. The eight strikeouts match a season high for the 28-year-old, and he’ll take a 3.93 ERA into his next start scheduled for Tuesday against San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:14 pm
     
  • Bryan Woo blanks Athletics to lower ERA to 1.07
    Bryan Woo blanked the Athletics over six innings with six strikeouts in a 3-0 win for the Mariners on Thursday.

    Advice: Woo allowed just two hits without walking anyone. The right-hander has been spectacular since returning from the injured list, and the six scoreless frames lower his ERA to a miniscule 1.07 on the season. Woo has been able to take advantage of some poor lineups thus far, but there’s simply no denying these kinds of results. He should have no trouble against the White Sox next week.   • Jalen Beeks melts down in ugly blown save vs. Reds
    Jalen Beeks was charged with five runs in the ninth inning on Wednesday in a blown save against the Reds.

    Advice: Beeks was called upon to protect a narrow one-run lead on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field and wound up recording a pair of outs before serving up a go-ahead two-run homer to Spencer Steer. He was lifted from the contest after loading the bases and was charged with all three additional runs when rookie Angel Chivilli coughed up a grand slam to Jonathan India. Not great. Unfortunately for the Rockies, they don’t have a ton of alternatives at the moment in the ninth inning besides occasionally turning to Tyler Kinley. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:28 pm
     
  • Beginning rehab assignment
    Diaz (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday.

    Advice: Diaz threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday and has now been cleared to test things out in a game setting. He is eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list on June 11 when the Mets return home from London. Barring a setback, Diaz should be ready to go that day. Whether he is used as the closer right away upon his return is unclear, as Diaz's struggles prior to getting hurt had led to him sharing save chances with others.   • Cleared for rehab assignment
    Matz (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

    Advice: Recovering from a protruding disc in his lower back, Matz was cleared for a rehab start after completing two high-intensity bullpen sessions. He is slated for 40-to-45 pitches Thursday, so he will need at least one additional rehab start before coming off the 15-day injured list rejoining the Cardinals rotation.
