      Cole (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Yankees fell 9-7 to the Mets, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- and four walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

      Advice: Making his second start of the season after recovering from an elbow issue, Cole simply couldn't locate his pitches as he served up four or more long balls for only the second time in his career -- the other such start came against the Twins in June 2022. The veteran right-hander did throw 72 pitches (44 strikes) Tuesday, up from 62 in his season debut as the Yankees gradually increase his workload.       Gore (6-7) allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Padres.

      Advice: Gore struggled against the team that drafted him, as the Padres put up multiple runs in the first and fifth innings. The southpaw has lost three of his five starts in June, giving up 18 runs (17 earned) over 26.1 innings. He's now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 99:28 K:BB through 85 innings across 16 starts on the year. Gore is projected to make his next start at home versus the Mets.     • MacKenzie Gore gives up five runs, loses to Padres
      MacKenzie Gore surrendered five runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Padres.

      Advice: Gore was lucky not to be tossed at the beginning of this one, as he hit Jurickson Profar in the back leg with a pitch right after warnings were issued because of some thoroughly unnecessary jawing and a benches-clearing incident. Gore’s pitch, though, didn’t seem to be intentional. It did lead to an ejection anyway, as Padres manager Mike Shildt was ejected for taking issue with Gore not being tossed.       Clase earned a save against the Orioles on Tuesday, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: Clase was called upon to protect a 10-8 lead in the ninth inning and did so on just 14 pitches. Clase has eight saves in June and leads the American League with 25 total saves in what has been an amazing 2024 campaign.     • Cole: velocity dip versus Mets intentional
      Gerrit Cole said after Tuesday’s start that he’s healthy and that he intentionally dialed back his velocity tonight after a long first inning.

      Advice: Cole topped out at 98.9 mph in the first tonight, but he was often throwing 92-93 mph in the second. He did pick it up some in the end, throwing his final fastball 95.3 mph, but it was an awfully discouraging performance. It’s good to know he doesn’t think he’s hurt, though.     • Cole allows four home runs in loss
      Gerrit Cole allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

      Advice: There’s a fair amount to be concerned about here. The Yankees ace walked four and struck out nobody on the day. His fastball sat 95.4 mph on the day which was down 1.3 mph from his first start. He hit 98 mph in the first inning but by the third inning, he threw only four fastballs and just one was over 94 mph. Home runs hit by Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader were on fastballs that were 91.5 and 93.2 mph. Given that Cole’s elbow injury to start the year involved some nerve issues, there’s a concern that there remains a lingering impact on Cole’s health or performance. It could also just be one bad start, but this is the second outing of his career that he did not strike out any batters and the other was on May 20, 2016, so it’s certainly a performance we want to take note of.       Lopez won't face the Cardinals on Tuesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Tuesday's game will be made up Wednesday as part of a doubleheader, and Lopez will get the nod to start the earlier of the two games. The 30-year-old righty hasn't allowed an earned run in 11 innings over his last two starts and will be facing a Cardinals offense that currently ranks 10th in the NL with a .687 OPS.       Emmanuel Clase tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday against the Orioles to record his 25th save of the season.

      Advice: Clase was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning at Camden Yards and managed to work around a one-out double from pinch-hitter Cedric Mullins to notch another save.
