      Pirates manager Derek Shelton disclosed that Cruz was removed from Monday's 8-2 win over the Mets in the bottom of the eighth inning due to his hamstring tightening up when he rounded the bases in the sixth inning, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

      Advice: Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run -- his 14th of the season and an additional run scored before exiting the contest. After reaching on a base hit in his final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth, Cruz apparently tweaked his hamstring either while advancing to second on Rowdy Tellez's infield single or while coming around to score on Nick Gonzales' double. Cruz played the next two innings in the field before he was replaced when his next turn in the batting order came up in the eighth, due to what Shelton said was an "abundance of caution." Based on Shelton's description, Cruz might have been dealing with cramping rather than a hamstring strain, but fantasy managers will still want to keep close tabs on the shortstop's status heading into Tuesday's series opener in Milwaukee.       Oneil Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Mets on Monday.

      Advice: Cruz has five homers in his last 15 games, and his current .747 OPS is his highest mark since mid-May.     • Bryce Harper “possibly” back on Tuesday
      Phillies manager Rob Thomson said “possibly” when asked if Bryce Harper (hamstring) will return on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: Bryce Harper was able to run the bases at “close to 100 percent” on Saturday and that was “the final step in his recovery.” The Phillies now just need to determine if “close to 100 percent” is enough to activate their star. Obviously, the series against the Dodgers is a big one, but the Phillies have a commanding lead in the NL East and a series with Oakland following this one against Los Angeles. With the All-Star break looming, the team could just decide to ensure Harper is fully healthy for the second part of the season.     • Tanner Houck changed weekly routine this season
      According to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, Tanner Houck made a few changes to his weekly routine that have helped lead to his breakout season.

      Advice: Houck was recently named to the All-Star team after posting a 2.68 ERA in the first half of the season. While some of that success can obviously be attributed to improved command and a better attack plan against lefties, Houck also mentioned two changes that he and pitching coach Andrew Bailey made this offseason. Houck moved his lifting day up but also moved his mid-week bullpen session up a day, according to Bailey, “Just gives them an extra 24 hours to recover, to maximize that recovery process, to really take inventory on the body and where it’s at...Being as far away removed from the highest workload event (pitching-wise) is probably the safest bet. And then that way, we can take an honest look at what can we get done today that sets us up for a competition.” Houck also mentioned that those bullpens now feature fewer pitches since his mechanics feel a lot better this year and he’s now just focused on refining during those sessions.     • Rosenthal: Rangers could trade Scherzer, others
      According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers could look to trade away players on expiring contracts at the deadline.

      Advice: The Rangers have been playing better of late, but they are 7 1/2 games back in the race for the third American League wild card with playoff odds hovering around 10 percent, so Rosenthal believes the team will be open to trading players on expiring contracts like Max Scherzer, Michael Lorenzen, Andrew Heaney, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates. With Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom also inching closer to second-half returns, the Rangers could deal from their starting rotation and not lose much. Rosenthal also suggests that the Rangers could listen on deals for Nathaniel Lowe, Leody Taveras, and “perhaps even Adolis García, all of whom are performing below expectations and under club control at rising salaries for two more seasons.” Trades would drastically impact the fantasy value of most of these players, which makes the Rangers perhaps the most interesting team at the trade deadline.
