    • Day off Friday
Springer isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Friday's game against San Diego.

Advice: Springer will catch a breather after going 2-for-10 with four walks during Toronto's previous series against the Yankees. While he sits, Cavan Biggio will shift to right field, allowing Davis Schneider to pick up a start at second base while batting fourth. Rotowire.com Today, 3:37 pm
    • George Springer not in Blue Jays’ lineup on Friday
George Springer is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Padres.

Advice: It appears to be just a routine night off for the 34-year-old outfielder. Cavan Biggio will start in his place in right field and will bat seventh against Padres’ knuckleballer Matt Waldron. Expect Springer to be back in there on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 3:33 pm
    • Out again against righty
Ruiz is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Cleveland.

Advice: In four games since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas, Ruiz has started once against a left-hander but has been on the bench all three times the Athletics have faced a righty. Ruiz's speed upside warrants him being held in deeper leagues in case he starts playing more, but it's clear Oakland plans for him to be a short-side platoon player at this point. • Ramps up to 65 pitches
Skenes allowed one hit and two walks while striking out eight across 3.1 scoreless innings in a start with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Advice: Skenes has yet to record more than 10 outs in a start this season, but he did increase his pitch count to 65. He was a bit wild with only 37 of his pitches finding the zone, though he still generated 11 whiffs. For the season, Skenes has thrown 12.2 shutout innings while maintaining a 27:4 K:BB. • Volume Up: Paul Skenes strikes out eight at AAA
Pirates RHP prospect Paul Skenes recorded eight strikeouts over 3 1/3 scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Just a few hours after Pirates general manager Ben Cherington told reporters he needed to continue building up volume in the minors, Skenes delivered another masterful performance, allowing just three baserunners and striking out eight of the 14 batters he faced. He touched triple digits a staggering 34 times on 65 pitches (37 strikes), generating 11 swinging strikes and finishing with a near-elite 37 percent CSW. It certainly feels like Skenes is on the precipice of his highly-anticipated arrival in the big leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:42 pm

    • Hits go-ahead homer in Game 1
Perez (groin) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Perez returned from a Grade 1 left groin strain Wednesday and delivered the key hit in the Royals' matinee win. He also went 0-for-2 with two walks in the nightcap while serving as the designated hitter. He appears good to go moving forward after the injury scare. The veteran catcher is off to a hot start with five homers, 17 RBI, nine runs scored and two doubles while slashing .324/.370/.574 over 18 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:27 am

    • Cherington: Skenes needs to ‘build up volume’
Pirates RHP prospect Paul Skenes needs more time to build up before the Pirates call him up to the majors, according to general manager Ben Cherington.

Advice: There was speculation that this year’s No. 1 overall pick would get the nod to fill a hole in Pittsburgh’s rotation with Marco Gonzales on the injured list, but the team still wants to give him more reps at the minor league level. Despite the team’s decision, Skenes is dominating at the Triple-A level where he has yet to allow a run in his first three starts. The 21-year-old has struck out 19 batters in his 9 1/3 innings to open the season. “We don’t want to go from zero to 100 right away.,” Pirates GM Ben Cherington said. “Paul’s so important to us long term, so we want to be really thoughtful about that.” Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:04 am

    • Getting breather Thursday
Paredes is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Paredes will get his second day off of the season after starting in 18 of the Rays' first 19 contests. With Paredes on the bench Thursday, Curtis Mead will pick up a start at third base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:54 am

    • Strikes out six in loss
Abbott (1-2) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings.

Advice: Abbott was efficient for most of the afternoon, with the exception of the four-seamers he left out over the plate for Cal Raleigh in the second inning and Mitch Garver in the sixth, both of which would end up in the outfield stands. The young lefty hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his first four starts to open the season and actually fanned a season-high six batters Wednesday, though the two home runs he surrendered also marked a season high. Furthermore, Abbott has now gone at least six innings in each of his last two starts and carries a clean 2.70 ERA following the loss. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:46 am
