      Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Nootbaar (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

      Advice: Nootbaar hit in the batting cage Monday and then took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since suffering a strained left oblique in late May.       Rangers selected the contract of OF Derek Hill from Triple-A Round Rock.

      Advice: Hill’s first stint with the Rangers ended prematurely earlier this month because the team wanted to add an infielder due to Corey Seager being banged up. He’ll get another look as a reserve outfielder now. The former first-round pick was hitting .350/.415/.631 with eight homers and seven steals in 42 games for Round Rock.
