    • Plays catch from 90 feet
Ohtani (elbow) played catch from 90 feet Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: Ohtani is throwing from 90 feet for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last September. He continues to progress in his rehab with no issues, and he's certainly shown no ill effects at the plate as a result of his ongoing recovery from the elbow issue. The Dodgers haven't ruled out the possibility of Ohtani playing the outfield at some point in 2024, though that still seems like a long shot. He will continue to serve as the club's designated hitter, with an eye on resuming two-way duties in 2025. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:12 pm

    • Red Sox place Connor Wong on Paternity List
Red Sox placed C Connor Wong on the Paternity List.

Advice: Congratulations to Connor. He will miss the first half of this week and should be removed from all weekly lineup leagues. Tyler Heineman was called up in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Monday, 12:35 pm
    • Goes on paternity leave
The Red Sox placed Wong on the paternity leave list Monday, Chris Henrique of Beyond the Monster reports

Advice: Wong's placement on the paternity list explains why he's out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Blue Jays. He will likely miss the entirety of the three-game set versus Toronto before rejoining the active roster Friday, when the Red Sox take on the Padres. Wong will put his season-best 13-game hitting streak on hold while he's away from the Red Sox. Rotowire.com Monday, 12:05 pm
    • Getting rest Monday
Wong is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Wong will get a break after he started behind the plate in all three of the Red Sox's games in Cincinnati over the weekend. Reese McGuire will receive the starting nod at catcher in Monday's series opener while Wong puts his 13-game hitting streak on hold, barring an appearance off the bench as a pinch hitter. • Targeting mid-August return
Kelly (shoulder) said Friday that he's eyeing the Diamondbacks' mid-August road trip as a target for his return from the 60-day injured list, Jake Oliver of SI.com reports. "Originally we thought it was kind of All-Star break but with how the progression lines up, it's probably a little bit later than that," Kelly said, when asked about his return timeline. "In my mind, I'm hoping I'm on that Tampa, Miami, and Boston trip. I've wanted to go on that trip all year and that seems to be around the right time that I'm back in there but obviously, things can change as we go along."

Advice: The three-city road trip that Kelly alluded to begins Aug. 16 in Tampa and wraps up Aug. 25, so the right-hander has shifted his focus toward returning roughly a month after the All-Star break. Placed on the IL on April 23 with a right shoulder strain, Kelly has had a slow recovery thus far from what he said is the first soft-tissue injury he's dealt with during his 15-year professional career. On a positive note, Kelly reiterated that he's continuing to throw, but he remains limited to playing catch off flat ground from 75 feet and hasn't stepped back on the mound since landing on the shelf. With Kelly suggesting that his return is still likely another two months away, fantasy managers in redraft leagues with limited IL spots who have been stashing him during his prolonged absence may be best served cutting bait at this point. • Extends hit streak to 13 games
Wong went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Reds.

Advice: Wong got the Red Sox started with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, extending a hit streak to 13 games (17-for-48, .354). The catcher, who entered 2024 with a career .232 batting average, is up to .330 for the season. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:50 am
    • Logs fifth straight multi-hit game
Gurriel went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Gurriel returned to action after sitting out Saturday with minor elbow soreness. Sunday's two-hit outing gives the outfielder five consecutive games with multiple hits. He's 10-for-21 (.476) with nine singles and one home run during that stretch. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:00 am
    • Extends hitting streak with homer
Nimmo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Nimmo has hit safely in nine straight games, going 16-for-37 (.432) in that span. He's turned up the power recently as well, slugging a homer in four of his last six contests to put him at 11 long balls on the year. The outfielder has added a .244/.358/.430 slash line with 43 RBI, 46 runs scored and five stolen bases across 72 games. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:19 pm
    • Notches 24th save
Clase pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and walk while striking out a batter on his way to a save in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Clase was called upon to protect a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning, and he worked around a pair of baserunners for his 24th save of the season. The right-hander is as elite as it gets at closer, going 24-for-27 on save opportunities in 2024, while he has now converted his last 11 chances. On the season, Clase owns a microscopic 0.72 ERA and 0.64 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 37.1 innings in 38 appearances out of Cleveland's bullpen. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:01 pm
