      Evan Phillips earned his first victory of the 2024 season on Tuesday despite allowing a solo homer in the ninth inning against the Diamondbacks,

      Advice: Phillips came on to work with the score tied at four runs apiece heading to the ninth inning. He struck out Ketel Marte to start the frame but then served up a go-ahead solo homer to Joc Pederson before retiring the next to hitters. He was then the beneficiary of a vultured win after the Dodgers rallied for two runs in the home half of the ninth. On the season, the 29-year-old closer now boasts a 2.10 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 27/8 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings on the year to go along with 13 saves in 13 chances.       Phillips (1-0) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over one inning but earned the win Tuesday over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Phillips gave up a tie-breaking solo home run to Joc Pederson in the top of the ninth inning, but the Dodgers replied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. The homer was just the second Phillips has allowed all year, though this was the second outing in a row he's been scored on.       Brent Rooker socked a dinger and stole a base on Tuesday evening as the Athletics triumphed over the visiting Angels.

      Advice: The 29-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the ballgame with his 405-foot (108.7 mph EV) solo shot off of Angels’ starter Jose Soriano in the fourth inning. Rooker also drew a walk in the fifth inning and swiped second base, but he was left stranded there.       Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

      Advice: Kershaw was shut down from throwing back in late June after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder, so it’s a positive sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again.       Kershaw (shoulder) has started throwing again Tuesday after experiencing shoulder soreness last week, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: After being shut down for one week due to feeling soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder, Kershaw said he was relieved an MRI didn't reveal any new damage. The southpaw added that he received some shots to help alleviate discomfort and that he is hopeful the pause in his rehab will not push his return timeline back too much.       Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Tuesday that Corey Seager remains day-to-day with a left hand contusion.

      Advice: Bochy added that Seager is doing better after being hit by a pitch during Saturday’s game and was able to progress to swinging a bat again. Although he’s not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres it certainly sounds like he has a shot at getting back into game action at some point in the coming days. Carpenter will given some time off for rest and recovery before resuming baseball activities, all but guaranteeing he'll be out until after the All-Star break.
