    • Kevin Gausman surrenders three runs in loss
Kevin Gausman lost to the Guardians after allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings on Friday.

Advice: Gausman’s velocity was well down for a second straight start tonight, even though he was working with an extra day off. It’s a definite cause for concern at this point; there’d be much more reason to expect Gausman to bounce back while throwing 94 mph than there is while he’s throwing 92. If there’s reason for optimism, it’s that’s he’s occasionally dealt with fluctuating velocity in the past. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm
    • Back in San Diego lineup
Profar (knee) will start in left field and bat third in Friday's game versus the Mets.

Advice: Profar exited Tuesday and sat out Wednesday due to left patellar tendinitis, which is something he's evidently dealt with off and on for years. However, he worked out pregame Friday following Thursday's team off day and is feeling well enough to give it a go. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:19 pm
    • Jurickson Profar (knee) returns to lineup Friday
Jurickson Profar (knee) returned to the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Mets.

Advice: Profar suffered a non-contact knee injury on a swing during Tuesday’s game and sat out on Wednesday as a precautionary measure, but he’s right back in his customary third spot in the Padres’ lineup and starting in left field on Friday night. He has been one of the biggest surprises of the first half of the season this year — slashing a robust .324/.424/.500 with 10 homers, 45 RBI and four stolen bases in 284 plate appearances. • Nabs win in return
Diaz (2-1) struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Thursday to pick up the win over the Marlins.

Advice: The right-hander looked good in his first appearance since May 25, topping out at 99.6 mph with his fastball. Diaz had been on the IL with a shoulder impingement before being activated Thursday, but he hadn't been his usual dominant self even before getting shut down -- so far in 2024 he has a 16.7 percent whiff rate, one of the lowest marks of his career and a massive drop from the 25.2 percent rate he delivered last year. While his results were impressive Thursday, Diaz managed only two swinging strikes on 15 pitches, suggesting that he may not be fully back in form yet. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:49 am

    • Good to go Friday
Arenado (hand) is starting at third base and batting cleanup Friday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The 33-year-old had X-rays come back negative on his right hand after being hit by a pitch Thursday, and he's apparently fine given he's back in the lineup a day later. Arenado is 8-for-20 with two doubles and two RBI in his past five games, and he has a .273/.340/.386 slash line through 12 contests in June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:33 am
    • Belts first career walk-off homer
Martinez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double Thursday in a 3-2 win against the Marlins.

Advice: Martinez accounted for both of New York's extra-base hits in the victory, with his first knock being a seventh-inning double that contributed to the team's first run. The veteran slugger's second hit was more dramatic -- he took Miami closer Tanner Scott deep for a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was Martinez's 321st career long ball and the first walk-off home run of his 14-year career. He's gone deep six times through 168 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:32 am
    • J.D. Martinez hits walk-off blast against Marlins
J.D. Martinez slugged a game-winning two-run homer on Thursday, lifting the Mets to a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Marlins.

Advice: Martinez’s walk-off shot came against Marlins stopper Tanner Scott in the bottom of the ninth inning and was his sixth round-tripper of the year. It was also somehow his first career walk-off homer in 14 seasons in the big leagues since 2011. He’s now hitting .271 with 21 RBI in 41 games for the Mets this year. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:05 pm
    • Blasts homer in win
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win against the Pirates.

Advice: He plated the first runs of the game, taking Mitch Keller deep in the third inning. With the long ball, Goldschmidt snapped a 14-game homerless drought. The veteran now has a hit in 11 of his last 12 games, but he still has just five RBI over his last 15 contests. The first baseman has a .226/.299/.354 slash line with eight home runs and 27 RBI through 65 games this season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 3:28 pm
    • Back in action Thursday
O'Hoppe (groin) is starting at catcher and batting fifth Thursday versus Arizona, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: O'Hoppe had to sit out Wednesday's contest after getting hit in the groin by a foul tip Tuesday, but he is seemingly feeling well enough to catch Griffin Canning in Thursday's series finale. The 24-year-old backstop has been white-hot at the plate recently, going 10-for-23 with a homer, two RBI and five runs scored since the beginning of June. Rotowire.com Thursday, 3:23 pm
