David Bednar charged with three runs against Mets
Getting some work in with the Pirates down 6-1, David Bednar gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning Wednesday against the Mets.
Advice: After a walk and a double to open the inning, Bednar couldn’t field a comebacker that skipped off him to Alika Williams at second. Instead of taking the sure out, Williams threw home and would have gotten the runner had Henry Davis been in better position to make the tag. Alas, no out was recorded, and Bednar allowed another single afterwards. He rebounded to retire back-to-back batters from there, but the Pirates opted to protect him and pull him after 30 pitches, and Josh Fleming allowed two inherited runners to score. It was a bad outing for Bednar and certainly especially annoying to those rostering him in fantasy leagues, but it wasn’t the disaster the box score makes it appear.
