• Martinez hit hard in loss to Phillies
Nick Martinez allowed five runs on 11 hits in six innings in a loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: Martinez allowed four extra-base hits on the day, but 12 hard-hit baseballs as the Phillies squared the ball up regularly. Martinez did strike out three and post a 24 percent whiff rate on the day while walking nobody but that was about the only good news. He now has a 5.48 ERA on the year and will take on the Padres next time out. He’s not a recommended play. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

  • Héctor Neris collects third SV of season Thursday
Héctor Neris fired a scoreless ninth to pick up a save Thursday against the Astros.

Advice: Neris did make things interesting, as he walked a pair of hitters to put the go-ahead run at the plate. Ultimately the 34-year-old was able to get the job done, and he now has three saves on the season after not opening the year in the closing role. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

  • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) halts throwing program
Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing.

Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters earlier this week that Graterol hasn’t been bouncing back well from recent throwing sessions and the club wants to take a longer-term approach with his rehabilitation. There is no timetable for his return at the moment. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has been out since spring training due to right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
  • Jax locks down 4th save of the season
Griffin Jax came to the rescue in the 9th inning to secure a 6-3 win over the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: The Twins entered the ninth with a 6-2 lead but the White Sox loaded the bases with one out, which brought Jax into the game. He got Eloy Jimenez to strike out, but then an error by Carlos Santana brought in a run and extended the game. Jax was able to induce a groundball to get out of the game and lock down his fourth save of the season. He has a 2.53 ERA on the year and has been solid for the Twins, but his time as the closer could be coming to an end with Jhoan Duran nearing a rehab assignment. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Andrés Muñoz hurls scoreless ninth for save
Andrés Muñoz fired a scoreless ninth to preserve a win for the Mariners on Thursday while picking up a save.

Advice: Muñoz needed just eight pitches to get through the inning, as the Rangers were aggressive against the 25-year-old. It’s the third save of the season for the right-hander, and he lowers his ERA to a solid 2.89 with the scoreless frame. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
  • Heaney gives up pair of two-run homers in loss
Andrew Heaney gave up four runs in six innings while picking up a loss to the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Heaney didn’t walk anyone and struck out seven. The left-hander was undone by a pair of two-run homers, with one coming off the bat of Ty France in the first, and another by Luis Urias that gave Seattle a 4-2 lead in the fifth. That makes four homers allowed over his last two starts by Heaney, but the swing-and-miss stuff showing up is encouraging. A friendly matchup on paper comes next for the 32-year-old, as he’s scheduled to face off against the Nationals. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Locks down eighth save
Clase earned the save Thursday against the Red Sox, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: It's the fifth straight scoreless outing from Clase -- he's allowed just one hit while striking out eight in his last five innings. Overall, the right-hander is 8-for-10 in save chances this year with a stellar 0.69 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB over 13 innings. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago
  • Woods-Richardson solid in spot start vs CWS
Simeon Woods-Richardson allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox, striking out six and walking one.

Advice: Obviously, the seven hits are not ideal and Woods-Richardson allowed six hard-hit baseballs in his five innings of work, but he also posted a solid 20 percent whiff rate and pounded the zone with his four-seam and changeup. His slider also posted a 33 percent whiff rate which showcases a deep enough arsenal to last as a starter. The bigger concern is that he got almost no called strikes and most of the pitches he threw on the edge of the strike zone or just off the plate were fouled off, which suggests a lack of deception or true swing-and-miss stuff. The 23-year-old has produced solid surface-level stats through his two starts and is set up for another start against the White Sox next week, so he could be worth grabbing in deeper formats.
