    • Martín Maldonado hits first homer since April 26
Martín Maldonado went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Wednesday, powering the White Sox to a lopsided 8-2 win over the Guardians.

Advice: Maldonado connected on a 95.6 mph heater from Guardians reliever Tim Herrin in the eighth inning, sneaking it just inside the left-field foul pole for his first deep fly since April 26. He also chipped in a run-scoring single off Cleveland starter Gavin Williams back in the fourth inning as part of Chicago’s four-run outburst in the frame. The 37-year-old backstop has been a complete non-factor at the dish for several years at this juncture, but his defensive abilities are enough to keep him hanging around at least a bit longer. • Jhonkensy Noel batting .235 through six games
Jhonkensy Noel went 1-for-4 with a single on Wednesday in the Guardians’ loss to the White Sox.

Advice: It’s admittedly an extremely small sample size, but Noel is batting just .235 (4-for-17) with eight strikeouts in six games since being called up last week from Triple-A Columbus. The 22-year-old slugger has also homered twice during that span, but it’s really been an all-or-nothing stretch for him so far as he adjusts to life in the majors. There’s some appeal here for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues if he can make enough contact to consistently showcase his mammoth raw power. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

    • Erick Fedde completes six in win over Guardians
Erick Fedde struck out three and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Guardians.

Advice: Fedde wasn’t overpowering in this one, but he got plenty of run support from Chicago’s lineup and managed to limit Cleveland’s offense to just three hits and a trio of walks over six frames. A third-inning sacrifice fly from David Fry, on the heels of a leadoff double by Guardians rookie Daniel Schneemann, represnted the lone tally against him in this one. The 31-year-old journeyman righty has settled in as a solid back-end rotation stabilizer for fantasy managers in his White Sox debut. He’ll carry a strong 3.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 94/28 K/BB ratio across 106 1/3 innings (18 starts) into a home outing against the Twins on Tuesday to close out the first half. • Gavin Williams hit hard Wednesday in season debut
Gavin Williams was lit up for five runs over four innings on Wednesday in his season debut against the White Sox.

Advice: Williams looked sharp in his final few minor league rehab outings, so this certainly qualifies as an unexpected clunker, especially considering Chicago’s offensive struggles this season. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect allowed a run-scoring single in the opening frame, but kept the White Sox off the scoreboard into the fourth inning before coughing up four runs on five hits in a disastrous frame. Perhaps the more concerning variable here for fantasy purposes is that he mustered just a pair of strikeouts in his long-awaited season debut. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Monday against the division-rival Tigers. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

    • Removed from 40-man
The Dodgers sent Feyereisen outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Feyereisen was optioned to Triple-A on June 21 after posting an 8.18 ERA in 11 innings with the big-league club, and he has now officially lost his 40-man spot to Matt Gage. The 31-year-old Feyereisen hasn't found much success in the minors this season either (6.75 ERA in 18.2 innings), so a return to the big leagues in 2024 doesn't seem likely given Los Angeles' bullpen depth. • Joins 40-man roster
The Dodgers added Gage to their 40-man roster Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Gage exercised an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract Wednesday, but he'll instead remain with the organization now that he owns a spot on the 40-man. The 31-year-old southpaw will remain in Triple-A, however, where he's posted a 2.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 19.1 innings this season. J.P. Feyereisen was outrighted to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

    • Dodgers add Matt Gage to 40-man roster Wednesday
Dodgers selected the contract of LHP Matt Gage from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw had an opt-out clause in his contract that he could exercise on Wednesday, but since the Dodgers wanted to keep him around they added him to their 40-man roster instead. Gage has pitched well at OKC this season, posting a 2.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 27/10 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings in 18 appearances. It shouldn’t take him long to earn an opportunity with the big-league club now. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

    • Cole Irvin removed from Orioles’ starting rotation
Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Wednesday that Cole Irvin will work out of the team’s bullpen going forward.

Advice: Someone needed to get the boot with Dean Kremer returning on Wednesday, and with Cade Povich and Albert Suarez pitching well and Irvin struggling recently, the writing had been on the wall. The 30-year-old hurler will settle into a long-relief role until another injury strikes the O’s rotation or they require an extra starter. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

    • Bryce Harper leads N.L. All-Star vote getters
Bryce Harper led all National League players in voting for the All-Star Game, getting named to his eighth All-Star team.

Advice: What remains unclear is whether or not Harper — who is currently stationed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, will be able to participate in the Mid-Summer Classic. Here’s who will join him in the starting lineup for the National League All-Stars (with their number of times making the All-Star team and starting in the game in parentheses): C: William Contreras (2 - 1x starter), 1B: Bryce Harper (8 - 7x starter), 2B: Ketel Marte (2 - 2x starter), SS: Trea Turner (3 - 2x starter), 3B: Alec Bohm (1 - 1x starter), DH: Shohei Ohtani (4 - 4x starter), OF: Christian Yelich (3 - 2x starter), Jurickson Profar (1 - 1x starter) and Fernando Tatis Jr. (2 - 2x starter).
