    • Opens in outfield
Steer started in left field and went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Nationals on Opening Day.

Advice: Steer was part of a productive lower-half of the order, which combined to go 8-for-19 and was responsible for all eight runs and RBI. He qualifies at multiple positions, but the offseason plan was to use him primarily in the outfield. Steer led the team in home runs (23) and RBI (86) last season while stealing a fantasy-helpful 15 bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:27 pm

    • Heads to IL
The Rangers placed Lowe (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Lowe will be eligible to come off the IL ahead of the Rangers' April 5 game against the Astros, but the team is expecting him to be ready to return from his right oblique strain around mid-to-late April, per MLB.com. Jared Walsh and Ezequiel Duran are expected to form a platoon at first base to begin the season until Lowe is ready to return. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:00 pm
    • Homer, three hits in loss
Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Goldschmidt accounted for all three of the Cardinals' hits Thursday, including a fourth-inning homer off Tyler Glasnow that stood at St. Louis' lone run in the Opening Day defeat. The veteran first baseman slashed .268/.363/.447 last season with 25 home runs and 80 RBI. The Cardinals are counting on Goldschmidt to provide a similar offensive presence in the middle of their order this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:47 pm
    • Yankees put Gerrit Cole (elbow) on 60-day IL
Yankees placed RHP Gerrit Cole on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Nothing has changed in terms of Cole’s prognosis as he’s expected to resume throwing at some point in April with the hope of ramping up his throwing progression afterwards. He’ll be sidelined until late May, at the earliest. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:14 pm

    • Juan Soto reaches three times, Yankees edge Astros
Juan Soto went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of walks on Thursday, leading the Yankees to a narrow 5-4 win over the Astros.

Advice: Soto kicked off the scoring for the Yankees with a fifth-inning RBI single against Astros starter Framber Valdez and wound up reaching base safely in three of his five plate appearances in his Yankees debut. The 25-year-old fantasy superstar will continue batting second for New York ahead of Aaron Judge, which should give him a decent shot at leading the majors in the runs scored department. • Paul Goldschmidt goes 3-for-4, homers in loss
Paul Goldschmidt had all three Cardinals hits and homered Thursday in the loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: The rest of the team was 0-for-27. Goldschmidt, though, came through nicely on the heels of his poor spring. His homer off Tyler Glasnow as the 34th of his career against Dodgers pitching. His next highest total is 31 against the Giants. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:05 pm
    • Ian Happ (hamstring) in Opening Day lineup
Ian Happ (hamstring) is in left field and leading off for Thursday’s Opening Day showdown against the Rangers.

Advice: There were some questions whether Happ would be ready for Opening Day after dealing with a lingering left hamstring strain throughout spring training, but he’s ready. Here’s the full lineup that will face Rangers ace Nathan Eovaldi on Thursday evening: Happ LF, Seiya Suzuki RF, Cody Bellinger CF, Christopher Morel DH, Dansby Swanson SS, Michael Busch 1B, Nico Hoerner 2B, Nick Madrigal 3B and Yan Gomes C. • O’s place Kyle Bradish (elbow) on 15-day IL
Orioles placed RHP Kyle Bradish on the 15-day injured list with a right UCL sprain.

Advice: The encouraging news for fantasy managers is that Bradish has already progressed to throwing bullpen sessions with Orioles general manager Mike Elias telling reporters earlier this month that he expects the 27-year-old righty to return early in the first half of the season. • Hits 15-day IL, could return in May
The Rangers placed Scherzer (back) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: According to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News, Scherzer threw a bullpen session Tuesday, which is believed to be the first time he stepped back on the mound since undergoing surgery in December to address a herniated disc in his back. Scherzer said that his pitching arm feels good, and he estimated that he's in what would be the early February portion of his throwing program if he had been coming into a normal spring training rather than rehabbing from surgery. Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that there are no plans at this point to shift Scherzer to the 60-day injured list, per Buster Olney of ESPN, suggesting the veteran right-hander could be ready to rejoin the rotation before the end of May.
