• Moves past illness
Estrada (illness) struck out two and gave up an earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Estrada relayed prior to Wednesday's game that he had been dealing with an illness, but it didn't deter the Padres from turning to him in the eighth inning while the Padres faced a 3-2 deficit. Though Estrada let in a run to give the Athletics a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, Donovan Solano tied the game with a two-run home run later in the frame before Jackson Merrill hit a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth. Estrada hasn't been used since Wednesday, but with his bout with the illness now a few more days in the rear-view mirror, he should be available for Sunday's series finale against the Mets. • Moved to 60-day IL
Javier (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: This was merely procedural to free up a 40-man spot. Javier underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this month and will miss extended time, including perhaps all of 2025. Luis Contreras was called up in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Josh Fleming starting Sunday against Rockies
Josh Fleming is starting Sunday’s game against the Rockies.

Advice: Fleming was recalled from Triple-A Friday, and after going unused in the first two games, he’ll get the nod against Dakota Hudson and the Rockies. The 28-year-old has not been effective thus far in 2024 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 19 innings, and he’s not a recommended streamer for this chance. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Justin Verlander (neck) could return vs. White Sox
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Justin Verlander (neck) could return for the upcoming series against the White Sox.

Advice: The Astros won’t announce their rotation for the upcoming games against Chicago just yet, largely (entirely) because the status of Verlander is up in the air. The future Hall of Famer was scratched from Saturday’s start against Detroit with discomfort in his neck, and he hasn’t been particularly effective when on the mound. It sounds like a trip to the injured list can be avoided, but Verlander’s status for his next start is very much up in the air. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

  • Jung (wrist) in lineup for Triple-A Round Rock
Josh Jung (wrist) is in the lineup for a rehab appearance for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Advice: Jung will be in the lineup for the first time for Round Rock as he works his way back from the fractured wrist that has sidelined him since early April. The infielder will likely need at least a few games in the PCL before he’s ready to return, but this is obviously most welcome news for both Texas and fantasy managers who have patiently waited for him to return. • Drawing start Sunday
Fleming is slated to start Sunday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Fleming was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday but went unused out of the bullpen for the first two games of the Pirates' series in Colorado. He'll step into the rotation for the series finale Sunday as Pittsburgh looks to give each of their other starters an additional day of rest, but Fleming will likely head to the bullpen or return to Triple-A immediately after the start. Fleming had worked as a multi-inning reliever for Indianapolis prior to his call-up, covering at least two frames in each of his last four appearances while pitching to a 5.68 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in seven outings overall. • Contreras (forearm) likely to begin rehab Tuesday
Willson Contreras (forearm) is likely going to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Advice: Contreras has made a rapid recovery from surgery to repair his fractured forearm, and what looked to be an injury that would keep him out through the All-Star break now appears to be one where he could be back as the Cardinals backstop in the next week. Keep in mind that setbacks do happen, but all signs point to the 32-year-old being a regular for the Cardinals much sooner than anticipated. Rotoworld 42 minutes ago

  • Cristian Javier (elbow) moved to 60-day IL
Astros transferred RHP Cristian Javier from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: It’s a move that creates room on the 40-man roster for Luis Contreras. Javier will miss the remainder of the 2024 season and likely a portion of 2025 while he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

  • Avoids structural damage to knee
Winker, who is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, said an MRI on his right knee showed no structural damage, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Winker noted, however, that he's still dealing with some stiffness in his right knee, which he injured while running the bases in the first inning of Saturday's 4-0 win before he was pulled in the third inning. The 30-year-old said that he expects to be good to go after a couple of days of rest, and he'll benefit from the Nationals being off Monday before the team begins a three-game set with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
