• Jung Hoo Lee absent from Giants lineup on Friday
Jung Hoo Lee is absent from the Giants’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The 25-year-old outfielder will get a rare breather with left-hander Jordan Montgomery taking the mound for the Diamondbacks. Lee has gotten off to a nice start in his first season stateside, hitting .282/.326/.346 with a homer, five RBI and two stolen bases through his first 19 games. Tyler Fitzgerald will cover center field in his place and will bat eighth for the Giants on Friday night. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago

  • Jake Cronenworth returns to Padres lineup Friday
Jake Cronenworth (leg) returned to the Padres’ starting lineup on Friday.

Advice: The 30-year-old infielder sat out each of the team’s previous two games due to soreness in his right leg, but it appears to have been only a minor issue. He’s right back in there at first base and will bat third against Yariel Rodriguez and the Blue Jays on Friday evening. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Participates in batting practice
Carlson (shoulder) has taken swings from both sides of the plate during batting practice and has also resumed throwing, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Carlson is still reportedly feeling pain during his right-handed swing, but he seems to be making solid progress overall in his recovery. The Cardinals still have not set a timeline for the 25-year-old's return, but he will almost certainly have to embark on a rehab assignment before he makes his season debut. • Undergoing Tommy John surgery
Gipson-Long is set to undergo Tommy John surgery Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: After having multiple doctors examine his elbow, the decision has been made for Gipson-Long to get UCL reconstruction on his right elbow. The right-hander started the season on the 15-day IL with a groin injury, and he was progressing in his rehab assignment before experiencing right forearm tightness. Gipson-Long will be shelved for the rest of the season and will likely miss much of 2025. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago
  • Dylan Carlson (shoulder) making slow progress
Dylan Carlson (shoulder) has started to take light swings in the batting cages and has done some defensive work, including throwing.

Advice: The 25-year-old outfielder still feels pain on his follow-through when swinging right-handed, but he and the club have been pleased with his throwing work so far. There’s still no clear timetable for a potential return to the Cardinals’ lineup, though it’s encouraging to hear that he’s at least taking small steps in the right direction. • Activated, optioned to Triple-A
The Twins reinstated Staumont (calf) from the 15-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: A left calf strain has kept Staumont on the sideline since Opening Day. He made three rehab appearances at St. Paul and will remain with the Saints after allowing three runs across 3.2 innings, though he could return to the majors if the Twins find themselves in need of a fresh bullpen arm later in the season. • DFA'd by Arizona
The Diamondbacks designated Peterson for assignment Friday.

Advice: Peterson was unable to make the most of his opportunities after shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL on April 7. Peterson hasn't recorded a hit since April 5, and he has reached base just four times over 26 plate appearances this season. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Matt Carpenter (oblique) takes swings on Friday
Matt Carpenter (oblique) took swings on the field during batting practice on Friday without any issues.

Advice: As long as he’s feeling well on Saturday, the veteran slugger could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. Since he’s been sidelined since the beginning of April, he’s going to need at least a couple of game’s worth of at-bats before he’s ready to return from the injured list. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

  • Diamondbacks place Ryne Nelson on 15-day IL
Diamondbacks placed RHP Ryne Nelson on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Nelson sustained the injury during Thursday’s start against the Giants after he was drilled in the elbow by a line drive off the bat of Mike Yastrzemski. He’ll miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering from the injury. Jordan Montgomery was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Friday and will take his place in the Diamondbacks’ rotation. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago
