He began the year without allowing an earned run through 20 innings before coughing up four in a brutal outing against Seattle on May 20.       Doval (2-1) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks in a blown save chance Sunday. He recorded two outs while taking a loss against the Yankees.

      Advice: Doval entered the game with a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning and was quickly jumped by the top of the Yankees' lineup. With one out in the inning, he yielded an RBI triple to Anthony Volpe, a go-ahead, two-run shot to Juan Soto and an RBI double to Giancarlo Stanton. Doval had allowed four earned runs over his previous 15.2 innings before Sunday's ugly outing. His ERA shot up from 2.78 to 4.24 with a 30:17 K:BB through 23.1 frames.     • Clay Holmes slams door on Giants on Sunday
      Clay Holmes slammed the door on the Giants in the ninth inning on Sunday, protecting a two-run lead to earn his 17th save of the season.

      Advice: The Yankees rallied for four runs off of Giants’ closer Camilo Doval in the top half of the ninth inning to take the lead and Holmes did his job to make sure that it stood up. He needed just 12 pitches (eight strikes) to retire Brett Wisely, Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman in order to end it. The 31-year-old hurler has been spectacular this season, compiling a 1.37 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 27/8 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings while nabbing 17 saves and a victory.     • Camilo Doval suffers blown save against Yankees
      Camilo Doval suffered a brutal blown save on Sunday afternoon against the Yankees, giving up four runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.

      Advice: Oof. The right-hander came on with a 5-3 lead to protect, but things got away from him in a hurry. Gleyber Torres started the inning with a single, then Anthony Volpe smacked a one-out RBI triple that narrowed the gap. Juan Soto then clobbered a go-ahead two-run homer to give the Yankees the lead. Doval kept fighting though, issuing a walk to Aaron Judge, an RBI double to Giancarlo Stanton and a walk to Alex Verdugo before uncorking a wild pitch that advanced both runners. He rallied to punch out DJ LeMahieu though before turning the ball over to Taylor Rogers to get the final out. He’s still locked in as the Giants’ closer, but his 4.24 ERA is no longer looking as spectacular and another blowup or two and Giants’ manager Bob Melvin may want to go another direction.     • Nelson Velázquez delivers clutch game-tying hit
      Nelson Velázquez had a pinch-hit two-RBI triple to tie the game in the ninth inning in a 4-3 win over the Padres on Sunday.

      Advice: Velázquez didn’t start the game, but he was brought on to face left-hander Yuki Matsui in the ninth inning and drilled a 109 mph triple off the center field wall to tie the game. It was a ball that could have left the yard in 18 of 30 MLB stadiums and continued Velázquez’s trend of only getting hits in big situations. In his last 11 games, Velázquez has gone 8-for-43 but five of those hits have been home runs and two others have driven in runs.     • Fernando Tatis Jr. drives in one in loss
      Fernando Tatis Jr. went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

      Advice: Tatis Jr. gave the Padres a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning with a run-scoring single that should have been enough to close this one out. It was his 31st RBI of the season and while the 25-year-old hasn’t truly exploded at any point this year, he could easily finish the season with 30 home runs and 20 steals, which is impressive work. If he can keep his batting average around .270, he should still put up fringe first-round value even though he hasn’t stood out as an elite fantasy player at any stretch this season.       Advice: Fry will head to the bench after a stretch of six consecutive starts during which he slashed .333/.462/.667 with three extra-base hits, one stolen base, eight RBI and five runs. Five of his last six starts came in left field, but with Steven Kwan back from the injured list, Fry could end up seeing most of his opportunities at designated hitter moving forward. Kyle Manzardo represents Fry's primary competition for playing time at DH, but both will be on the bench Sunday while Jose Ramirez gets a day off from third base and but sticks in the starting nine in a non-defensive role. He's gone 10-for-22 (.455) with two homers and seven RBI over his last six games, posting three multi-hit efforts in that span. The infielder continues to hit well despite often being in the bottom half of the order.
