  • Starlin Castro homers in Yankees' victory
Starlin Castro went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double Wednesday as the Yankees took down the Royals 5-4 in 13 innings.

Advice: Two straight extra-inning wins for the Yankees in Kansas City. Castro had the biggest hit in the 13th, though he neither scored nor plated the winning run. Instead, his double advanced Didi Gregorius to third, and Gregorius went on to score on Brian McCann's sac fly. Castro's homer was his 19th, which is five better than his previous career high. His .269 average and .302 OBP leave more to be desired. Rotoworld.com 54 minutes ago

  • Schoop goes 3-for-5 with a two-run bomb
Jonathan Schoop went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run blast in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: The jack came in the ninth inning off Blue Jays' closer Roberto Osuna but it wasn't enough to prevent the Orioles from losing. Schoop's semi-breakout campaign last year went largely unnoticed because he only played half the season. This year the 24-year-old has maintained that production over a full season and has provided solid value for savvy owners. He is batting .282 with 21 home runs and 70 RBI. • Johnson smacks base-loaded double on Wed.
Kelly Johnson hit a clutch bases-loaded double to lift the Mets over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Advice: He came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning of a tie game. He ripped a double to right field that scored all three runners and broke open the game. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI on the night. He has a decent .254 batting average and .722 OPS but doesn't get enough playing time to matter much in fantasy leagues. He has nine home runs and 30 RBI in 256 at-bats spread across 109 games. • Neil Walker will likely undergo back surgery
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Neil Walker will "probably" undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back.

Advice: The Mets' dark, injury-riddled season continues. Walker was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back earlier on Wednesday and while the second baseman wanted to play through the injury, it was causing him numbness in his foot and leg. After seeking a second opinion, it was determined that surgery would be the best course of action. Walker will miss the remainder of the 2016 season. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:24 pm

  • Red Sox to promote Yoan Moncada on Friday
Red Sox infield prospect Yoan Moncada will be promoted to the major leagues on Friday.

Advice: Red Sox manager John Farrell hinted that this might be in the works in a chat with the media on Wednesday morning, stating that the 21-year-old would be brought up as "not just a pinch-runner" but to see regular action at third base. Travis Shaw, Aaron Hill, and Brock Holt have been disappointing at the hot corner in Boston and Moncada has slashed .298/.411/.518 with 15 home runs and 45 steals in 105 games this season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. • Dozier swats two-run home run on Wednesday
Brian Dozier smacked his 32nd home run of the season on Wednesday, a two-run shot off Corey Kluber of the Indians.

Advice: The game was already out of reach when Dozier went deep in the eighth inning. He went 1-for-4 with a walk on the night. The Twins' miserable season has masked a very impressive campaign by their second baseman. Dozier is batting .269 with a nice .886 OPS, 32 longballs, 81 RBI and 85 runs scored in a bad lineup. He has swiped 11 bags to give his owners an extra bonus. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:12 pm

  • Marwin Gonzalez lifted with hamstring injury
Marwin Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the A's due to right hamstring discomfort.

Advice: Gonzalez was dealing with a bit of a knee injury after being plunked by a pitch in mid-August, but Wednesday's hamstring issue would seem to be unrelated to the previous ailment. Advice: And it sounds like Farrell is envisioning the 21-year-old taking on more than just a pinch-running, pinch-hitting type of role. Travis Shaw, Aaron Hill, and Brock Holt have failed to produce meaningful offensive numbers at third base and Moncada is batting .298/.411/.518 with 15 home runs and 45 steals in 105 games this season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. After a leadoff single by Adrian Beltre, Odor drove a low offering from Edwin Diaz to straightaway center to give the Rangers the come-from-behind victory. • Gyorko hits 24th homer, Cards win in extras
Jedd Gyorko swatted his 24th home run of the season Tuesday, and the Cardinals edged the Brewers 2-1 in 10 innings.

Advice: Gyorko's homer, a solo job, came in the sixth inning to give the Cardinals a fleeting lead. He's now homered in back to back games and four of his last six. The power isn't new -- he hit 23 homers in his rookie season with the Padres in 2013 -- but it is a bit unexpected after Gyorko combined to hit just 26 dingers over his previous two seasons. Cameron Maybin will bat leadoff against James Shields.Daily Slant: Whether it's the lead-off spot or not, Kinsler is in an excellent position to succeed at home against James Shields. Brian Dozier connected for his 30th home run of the season in the Twins' loss to the Tigers on Wednesday.

Advice: He added a single and finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Dozier has generated a sudden burst of power lately with 13 home runs in his last 23 games. This is the first 30-homer season in Dozier's career. He has a .270 batting average this year after being a burden in that fantasy category in all prior seasons. He contributes nicely across the board with 79 runs scored, 76 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:23 pm

  • Turner goes 4-for-5 on Wednesday
Trea Turner sprayed four singles in five at-bats in a loss to the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Turner doesn't have a ton of over-the-fence power but he hits the ball hard and runs extremely well. He has 14 triples combined between the majors and minors this year compared to 10 home runs. He is batting .320/.346/.536 with four homers and 14 steals in 36 games. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:49 pm

  • Dustin Pedroia steals two bases in loss
Dustin Pedroia had two hits, two steals and two runs scored against the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: Pedroia doesn't contribute enough in homers and steals to function as an elite fantasy second baseman these days, but he's still plenty useful there and he remains an excellent major leaguer. He's hitting .306 with 83 runs scored in 122 games. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:09 pm

  • Moncada reaches five times in Tuesday's win
Red Sox INF prospect Yoan Moncada reached base five times Tuesday in a victory for Double-A Portland.

Advice: He walked a career-high four times and also slugged a three-run homer. Moncada has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games while raising his average 10 points. The 21-year-old has been a steady source of power and speed with 14 homers and 44 steals this season. A natural second baseman, Moncada can expedite his arrival in the big leagues by making a smooth transition to third. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 12:08 pm

  • DJ LeMahieu (wrist) sitting again Wednesday
DJ LeMahieu (wrist) is out of the Rockies' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.

Advice: LeMahieu was a late scratch Tuesday due to left wrist inflammation and is apparently still dealing with some discomfort. Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth on Wednesday afternoon against Zach Davies. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:26 am

  • Dozier homers, scores twice against Tigers
Brian Dozier went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.

Advice: Dozier hit a solo jack in the fifth inning, his 10th homer this month and 29th of the season. That's seventh-best in the American League, and it's now a single-season high for the 29-year-old. It's shaping up to be a career year on a few different fronts for Dozier, who is batting .268/.341/.536 with 75 RBI, 77 runs scored and 10 steals this year. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:58 pm

  • Trea Turner goes 4-for-4 in loss to Orioles
Trea Turner had three singles and a double in four trips to the plate on Tuesday versus the Orioles.

Advice: It's the first four-hit night of the youngster's career. He also had a couple would-be stolen bases overturned by instant replay. Turner has stabilized the center field and leadoff spots for the Nationals, as he now sports a .320/.346/.536 batting line with four homers and 14 steals over 36 games. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:11 pm

  • Beckham leaves game with tight hamstring
Tim Beckham left Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with a tight left hamstring.

Advice: He was replaced in the lineup by Richie Shaffer before the top of the eighth inning, finishing the night 1-for-3 with a single. Beckham will be reevaluated by the Rays' medical team on Wednesday. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:11 pm

  • Peraza stays hot with two hits, two steals
Jose Peraza singled twice and stole a pair of bases in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: He's now an incredible 9-for-19 at the plate since being recalled last week. There's not really a spot for Peraza to get regular starts once Zack Cozart (Achilles) is ready, but he's certainly playing well enough to force the Reds to make a tough decision. Perhaps they'll bench Scott Schebler. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:58 pm

  • Starlin Castro homers twice
Starlin Castro hit a pair of solo homers Monday against the Mariners.

Advice: Castro has set a new career high with 17 homers this year, but even so, he hasn't been as productive as hoped. The sub-.300 OBP and mediocre defense at second base have left him a below average regular. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 10:30 pm

  • Jonathan Schoop slugs home run No. 20
Jonathan Schoop smacked a solo home run in Monday's victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Schoop's dinger to lead off the third inning was the Orioles' first hit of the game. They tacked on three more runs in the fourth, with Mark Trumbo joining Schoop in going deep. Schoop now has a career-high 20 home runs, giving the O's five players that have reached the 20-homer mark. Pedro Alvarez (19) will join the group at some point. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 7:10 pm
  • Peraza goes 4-for-6 with three runs scored
Jose Peraza finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored in the Reds' loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: He doubled twice and singled twice, scoring runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Peraza is now 9-for-15 with three RBI and five runs scored since his return to the major leagues on Monday and has lifted his batting average to .301. He's also swiped 10 bases in 36 games. The versatile 22-year-old is capable of continuing to provide sneaky fantasy value down the stretch. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 1:50 pm

  • Gyorko homers again as Cardinals rout Phils
Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer Sunday in the Cardinals' 9-0 pounding of the Phillies.

Advice: Gyorko doubled and scored in the Cardinals' three-run fourth inning and then went deep to right-center off Phillies reliever Frank Herrmann in the Cardinals' four-run eighth. The 27-year-old infielder now has 20 home runs on the season, in just 272 at-bats. That is a homer for every 13.6 at-bats. Another terrific under-the-radar acquisition for Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak. Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 2:04 pm

  • Jean Segura getting a day off Sunday
Jean Segura is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

  • Walker going on paternity leave this week
Neil Walker will be away from the Mets for this week's series in St. Louis, as his wife will have labor induced Monday night.

Advice: Walker is slated to rejoin the Mets on Friday against the Phillies. The second baseman return to action Saturday after missing four games with a back issue, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kelly Johnson and Wilmer Flores should handle second base while Walker is away. Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 7:08 am

  • Zobrist scores three times as Cubs rout Rox
Ben Zobrist went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in the Cubs' 9-2 thumping of the Rockies on Saturday.

Advice: Zobrist had an RBI double in the teams' four-run fourth inning, and he tacked on a solo homer in the ninth for good measure. His 14 home runs are the most he's hit in a season since 2012. The multi-hit game was also his fourth in his last eight contests, raising his overall line to .279/.386/.450 with 62 RBI and 76 runs scored in 113 games. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 9:50 pm

  • Peraza has three hits, homer in return
Jose Peraza went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored Saturday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Peraza celebrated his return to the Reds -- he had been recalled earlier in the day -- with easily his best game as a major leaguer to date. Also of note, he started at shortstop in the game after working at the position in the minors following his August 2 demotion. There's a reason he was a second baseman coming up through the minors, but if the Reds want to use him at short then more power to them. The added eligibility, should he acquire it, would make him a more interesting player come spring 2017. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 9:19 pm
