    • Derek Holland allowed four runs on eight hits and lasted just 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Sunday night against the Tigers.
Advice: It was the first time Holland hasn't gone at least five innings in a start this season. He gave up three walks and managed to finish with six strikeouts, but couldn't overcome a pair of home runs to Miguel Cabrera. After settling for two straight no-decisions, Holland will look to get back in the win column in his next start Saturday vs. the Mariners.

    • Ervin Santana notched another quality start on Saturday but took the loss in Kansas City's 2-1 setback in Oakland.
Advice: Santana spun seven innings of two-run ball, striking out five and allowing four hits and three walks. He didn't surrender a home run, which has been perhaps the biggest reason he's turned around his career in Kansas City. After leading the league in long-balls allowed in 2012 with 39, Santana has given up just six thus far; and three of those were in his season debut. The resurgent right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over eight starts.

    • Tommy Hunter hurled 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Jair Jurrjens to record his first hold of 2013 in Baltimore's 10-6 loss Saturday.
Advice: Hunter finished with a 5.45 ERA in 2012 and a 4.68 ERA in 2011, mostly as a starter. He's a better bullpen fit, where he's posted a 1.54 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 18/4 K/BB rate to go with a 3-1 record and a save over 23 1/3 innings. If Hunter keeps it up, Baltimore is likely to increase his usage to higher-leverage situations.

    • Lucas Harrell allowed just one run over seven innings but the Astros lost to the Pirates on Sunday.
Advice: Harrell got exactly zero support from his offense and was handed his fifth loss despite pitching very well. He allowed just four hits -- one double and three singles -- while striking out three batters and walking only one. The right-hander will try to keep it rolling next week against the A's.

    • Lucas Harrell will move up in the rotation to start Sunday against the Pirates.
Advice: Bud Norris was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but he'll get some extra rest after he left a start earlier this week due to back spasms. Harrell has an ugly 5.11 ERA and 29/29 K/BB ratio in 49 1/3 innings through nine starts this season.

    • Lucas Harrell allowed five runs in five-plus innings as the Astros lost to the Tigers on Tuesday.
Advice: Harrell held the Tigers scoreless through the first four innings but allowed three in the fifth and two more in the sixth before he was removed. He was playing with fire all night, though, relying on two double plays and registering just one strikeout on the evening. Like all the other Astros pitchers, he should continue to be ignored in all formats. His next start will come Monday against the Royals.

    • Ricky Nolasco whiffed 11 batters while holding the Diamondbacks to one run over eight frames in Sunday's 2-1 win.
Advice: Nolasco came out for the ninth trying to finish off a shutout but was pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Didi Gregorius. The bullpen let the inherited runner score but eventually closed it out in nail-biting fashion. Nolasco has gone through his typical ups and downs but ultimately has pitched pretty well for the Fish, posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He'll face the White Sox next weekend.

    • Ricky Nolasco allowed six runs in five innings as the Marlins lost to the Reds on Tuesday.
Advice: Nolasco surrendered two bases-loaded walks in the second inning before Xavier Paul broke the game open with a base-clearing double to cap the Reds' scoring. He settled down after that, but the damage was already done. Like most Marlins pitchers, Nolasco won't get many wins and should be largely ignored in fantasy realms. Since he will continue to pitch in real life, though, his next start will come Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

    • Tyler Chatwood enjoyed a successful return to the majors Saturday night, holding the Giants to one run over 5 1/3 innings.
Advice: Chatwood was making a spot start that allowed Colorado to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest. In his first start since April 29, Chatwood struck out four, walked four and gave up seven hits. Chatwood has a 2.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over three starts in the majors. He may just have forced his way into another turn in Colorado's rotation.

    • Rockies recalled RHP Tyler Chatwood from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Advice: Chatwood will make a spot start on Saturday night against the Giants. He has posted decent numbers this year at the Triple-A level but is not a great fantasy bet.

  • Fri, May 17
    • Tyler Chatwood will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado to start against the Giants on Saturday.
Advice: Originally, Chatwood was expected to be recalled to start on Sunday in place of the injured Jeff Francis. Instead, the Rockies have opted to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest and use Chatwood on Saturday. Chatwood has fared decently in his first two starts with the Rockies this season, and has posted a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

    • Tyler Chatwood is expected to be recalled to start Sunday against the Giants in place of the injured Jeff Francis (groin).
Advice: Chatwood tossed six shutout innings in his second start with the Rockies late last month, so it's not a surprise that he's getting the call. He's also had a great year at Triple-A Colorado Springs, posting a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. The righty could stick around for at least a couple starts.

    • Juan Nicasio threw six scoreless innings Sunday in a win over the Giants.
Advice: Nicasio was knocked around for five runs in his previous outing, so it was a solid bounce back effort. He allowed just three hits, one walk, and had five strikeouts. Nicasio was a candidate to be sent down earlier this month, but his rotation spot is safe for now. Roy Oswalt is expected to make 4-5 starts with Double-A Tulsa before the Rockies need to decide whether or not to call him up.

    • Juan Nicasio has had his next start pushed back a day, and will now start against the Giants on Sunday.
Advice: With Tyler Chatwood replacing the injured Jeff Francis in the Rockies' rotation, they're utilizing the opportunity to give Nicasio an extra day of rest. It's not a bad idea, as he's coming off his worst start of the season, where he yielded five runs on eight hits in Monday's loss to the Cubs.

    • Felix Hernandez wasn't sharp Sunday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- over just five innings in a loss to the Indians.
Advice: King Felix recorded eight strikeouts, but he allowed eight hits and walked a pair. The Mariners' ace left his last outing with a back issue, so it's possible it was an issue for him again today. As long as he's healthy, Hernandez is obviously a good bet to bounce back against the Rangers his next time out.

    • Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Felix Hernandez is "feeling good" a day after leaving his start against the Yankees early after tweaking his back
Advice: Hernandez tweaked his back while fielding a ground ball and turning and throwing to second base in the sixth. He would have come out for the seventh if not for the minor ailment. It's not expected to affect his next start, though. "He's good," Wedge said. "He said it was pretty sore this morning, but he feels good, and [trainer Rick Griffin] felt he got him in a good place after the game last night. He's feeling good today, so we should be fine."

    • Felix Hernandez struck out eight while tossing six innings of one-run ball but suffered a no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.
Advice: King Felix gave up just five hits and walked a pair. He had thrown 97 pitches and probably would have continued in the seventh inning if not for a minor back injury that he suffered in the sixth. It might have cost the M's a win, as the Yanks plated the tying and go-ahead runs in the seventh. Hernandez, who owns a 1.53 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, said after the game that his back is fine. He'll face the Indians Sunday.

    • Matt Moore ran his record to 8-0 after tossing seven innings of one-run ball in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Orioles.
Advice: Moore notched just three strikeouts on the day, but he allowed only five hits and walked one. The left-hander has still had some control problems this season, but he's limited the damage by giving up just 34 hits over 55 innings. A few more balls are sure to start falling in at some point, but the young southpaw should remain a fantasy ace. He'll face the Yankees next weekend.

    • Matt Moore allowed three runs over six innings in the Rays' 5-3 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Advice: The final line is a little misleading for the southpaw, as the Sox did all their damage with the first four batters of the game. Moore then held Red Sox batters to just one hit and two walks over the next five innings, striking out eight in the process. He now owns a 2.44 ERA through eight starts. His next will come Sunday as the Rays visit the Orioles.

    • Andrew Cashner held the Nationals to three runs on seven hits over six-plus innings Sunday for his third win of the season.
Advice: He gave up just one walk and had six strikeouts. His lone mistake came on a two-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the fourth inning. Since converting to a starter, Cashner's fastball has averaged 94.8 mph, where he ranks second only to Stephen Strasburg. He's surrendered just four runs over his last 21 innings and remains a must-own in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

    • Andrew Cashner held the Orioles to two runs -- one earned -- over 7 1/3 innings Tuesday in a Padres victory.
Advice: Cashner was handed a no-decision because the Padres didn't lock up the win until the ninth inning. Cashner scattered four singles and one double, fanning three and issuing only one walk. He has been mostly solid since moving into the San Diego starting rotation and is a must-own right now in standard mixed fantasy leagues. The Nationals are next.

    • Chris Tillman allowed three runs on just five hits and a walk over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Advice: Tillman recorded four strikeouts. The right-hander put together his sixth straight quality start, but he was undone in this one by a pair of solo homers from Luke Scott and Matt Joyce. Tillman now sports a solid 3.52 ERA and 1.27 WHIP for the season and should remain in fantasy lineups for a matchup this weekend in Toronto.

    • Jordan Zimmermann took a tough-luck loss Saturday, giving up two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings against the Padres.
Advice: Zimmermann was as good as anticipated in PETCO, striking out six, walking none and scattering seven hits. One of the most underrated pitchers in the majors, Zimmermann is 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 45/9 K/BB rate in nine starts over 66 2/3 innings.

    • Jordan Zimmermann spun 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Nationals' victory over the Dodgers on Monday.
Advice: He gave up nine hits but no walks, striking out five. A second-round pick of the Nats in 2007, Zimmerman owns a sparkling 7-1 record and 1.69 ERA. The must-start mixed leaguer will put both on the line Saturday in San Diego. Although a level of regression is certain going forward, we like his chances to continue dominating this weekend.

Advice: Masterson permitted just three singles, walked a pair and hit a batter. The brilliant outing comes on the heels of a shutout of the Yankees, and he has now won seven games on the year. The big right-hander is looking much more like the 2011 version and in fact has been even better to this point. He'll bring a 2.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Boston next weekend.

Advice: That's assuming he gets through bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday with no issues. Advice: Mendoza earned his first win earlier this week, and has put together three straight quality starts. He would have been in line for his second win, but the Royals' bullpen allowed a home run to Yoenis Cespedes in the eighth inning that cost him the game. • Doug Fister was knocked around for five earned runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss on Sunday night against the Rangers.
Advice: Fister worked up a high pitch count early and had to be pulled after giving up four runs in a disastrous fifth inning. It was his first non-quality start this season and just his second loss. Fister will take a 3.62 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a matchup with the Twins on Friday.

Advice: Fister had just one glitch on the night, allowing three hits to begin the second inning before settling down and holding the Astros scoreless for the rest of the night. His control was on point as well, as he struck out seven while not walking a batter. There's the usual caveat that "it's the Astros," but Fister is now 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA through eight starts. Advice: Aroldis Chapman blew the Reds' one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. Bailey did his part, yielding only five hits and a walk while fanning three batters. He now has a stellar 3.09 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 55/15 K/BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings this season and should keep cruising next time out against the light-hitting Cubs.

Advice: Bailey limited the Marlins to six hits and no walks, throwing 88 of his 125 pitches for strikes. The Marlins lineup will make a Cy Young contender out of anyone, but Bailey is capable of pitching this well for sustained stretches as evidenced by his 3.68 ERA and 13 wins in 2012. • Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
Advice: It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said.
