    • Jeff Baker went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Mariners.
Advice: Baker is only playing against left-handers, so manager Ron Washington made the switch back to David Murphy when the Mariners brought in a righty. Baker has been terrific at his job so far, hitting .354 with five homers in 48 at-bats. Still, his fantasy value is quite limited while he plays on average twice a week.

    • Derek Dietrich connected for a two-run homer in Friday's extra-inning loss to the White Sox.
Advice: It was his only hit in five at-bats. Dietrich has held his own in his first taste of the majors, hitting .250 (12-for-48) with two homers, two doubles, six RBI, and a .724 OPS through 13 games. It's very possible Dietrich will force Donovan Solano into a utility role when he returns from the disabled list.

    • David Freese returned to action on Friday went connected on a two-run homer and an RBI double against the Dodgers.
Advice: It was Freese's first game in five days because of a cut right thumb. He's gone 6-for-15 with two homers in his last four games, so it seems his long slump is over. Now if only he can stay in the lineup.

    • David Freese (thumb) is out of the Cardinals' lineup again Wednesday.
Advice: He's now missed three straight games due to swelling around his right thumb where he needed three stitches for a small cut. The Cards are worried that cut could split open, so they're playing things cautiously. Freese could be back in there Friday after the off day Thursday. Matt Carpenter is at third again Wednesday, with Daniel Descalso covering second.

    • Jeff Keppinger delivered a walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 win over the Marlins in 11 innings on Friday.
Advice: Keppinger sneaked it through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded to win it. The veteran infielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI on the night and is hitting .343 (11-for-32) over his last nine games. The recent hot streak has only pulled his batting average up to .210 for the year, but we expect it to continue to rise in the days ahead.

Advice: Pollock was probably looking at a demotion right about now if Adam Eaton's rehab went as hoped. As is, he'll remain in the majors and continue to start against lefties for a few more weeks. He's 8-for-14 the last five days after breaking out of a 1-for-19 slump.

    • Michael Saunders turned in another hitless game from the leadoff spot Friday, dropping his average to .227.
Advice: Saunders is 3-for-27 with 13 strikeouts and no walks in his last eight games. It's not going to get him taken out of Seattle's lineup, but it might get him knocked down from the top of the order, at least for a bit. He's a No. 6 or 7 hitter on a decent offense.

    • Andre Ethier is out of Wednesday's lineup, in part because Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he wanted to put out his "most competitive lineup" and one that would "fight the hardest."
Advice: Ouch. Ethier is only hitting .264 with four homers and a .758 OPS this season, but it's still unusual to see him sitting against a right-hander Wily Peralta. And in favor of Scott Van Slyke, no less. Either way, Mattingly sounds like someone who is feeling the pressure of his team's struggles. This could be the beginning of the end for him in Los Angeles.

    • Twins optioned OF Oswaldo Arcia to Triple-A Rochester.
Advice: Despite an 0-for-3 effort on Friday, the 22-year-old rookie made a very strong impression during his short time with the Twins. Through his first 30 games, he hit .255/.318/.449 with four homers and 14 RBI. He had struggled to find consistent at-bats in recent days though, and the Twins would likely prefer him playing on a nightly basis at the Triple-A level. • Miguel Cabrera continued to torment major league pitching Thursday, going 2-for-3 with another homer in a comeback win against the Twins.
Advice: He also walked twice. Now on a four-game home run streak, Cabrera is 9-for-15 (.600) with five walks, a double, six homers, 13 RBI and nine runs during that stretch. He's first in the AL in batting average (.391), second in homers (14), and first in RBI (55), runs (39), slugging percentage (.701) and OPS (1.168). Advice: The home run raised his RBI total to a ridiculous 49, and he's now hitting .384/.455/.667 on the season. A Triple Crown is a rare feat, but Cabrera may actually be an odds-on favorite to repeat this year with how he's hitting.

The weather conditions at Arlington obviously played a factor, but it was a monster of a performance.
