    • Aaron Harang (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday with no issues and is in line to start on Tuesday in Anaheim.
Advice: Harang missed his last outing with some minor back stiffness, but he's alright now. The big righty holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season but does boast a 23/5 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 frames.

    • The Mariners think Aaron Harang (back) will be ready to make his next start.
Advice: Harang was scratched from Thursday's outing due to a stiff lower back, but it appears that he's not going to need a DL stint unless he has a setback over the next few days. The big right-hander holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season.

    • Aaron Harang has been scratched from his start Thursday vs. the Yankees due to back stiffness.
Advice: Hector Noesi is filling in. The Mariners aren't sure yet whether Harang will need a stint on the 15-day disabled list. He has posted a hideous 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings (five starts) this season for Seattle.

    • Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
Advice: It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

    • Dodgers activated 2B Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list.
Advice: Ellis had been scheduled to remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend, but the Dodgers decided to bring him back early since Luis Cruz (elbow) is banged up. The second baseman is hitting second on Sunday afternoon against the Braves' Mike Minor.

    • Mark Ellis was removed early from Friday's rehab game as a precautionary measure due to poor field conditions.
Advice: Ellis was supposed to play four innings and receive two at bats, but a rainy night at Double-A Chattanooga forced him out after only three innings and one at-bat. It's certainly encouraging news to hear that it wasn't an injury related setback that caused the early exit.

    • Mark Ellis (quad) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Chattanooga on Friday.
Advice: Ellis tested out his quad by running before Tuesday's game, and it evidently went well. He should be back sometime next week as long as he can avoid a setback.

    • Maicer Izturis went 1-for-4 with a single in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.
Advice: Izturis isn't walking or making contact this season, and you already know his swing is punchless. Toronto was hoping for more than a .218/.242/.331 slash line when they signed Izturis from the Angels over the winter to a three-year, $9 million deal and the Jays recently sat him in three of four games.

    • Oliver Perez took the loss in Saturday's game against the Indians after he allowed a run on two hits and a walk without recording an out.
Advice: Perez had been lights out prior to last night and this is the first update we've done on him in 2013. Such is life as a middle reliever. Those of us that snickered when Seattle signed Ollie in 2012 -- each and every one of us, in other words -- have been silenced. The formerly maligned left-hander from Mexico put up a 2.12 ERA in 2012 and currently sits at 1.62 in 2013. After years spent as an overpaid source of angst for Mets fans, Perez has proved a great bargain in the Northwest.

    • Wilton Lopez tossed 1 1/3 perfect relief innings in Saturday's 10-2 drubbing of the Giants.
Advice: Lopez held a 12.46 ERA on April 12 and has been working since to minimize the toll his early-season woes wrought on his earned run average. He finished his first month in Colorado with a 6.17 ERA, but has been the reliever the Rockies believed they were acquiring over the winter since, posting a 2.08 ERA over 8 2/3 innings. Interestingly, Lopez had a superb 8/0 K/BB rate during his awful April and has notched a sub-mediocre 3/3 K/BB rate in May.

    • Neftali Feliz (elbow) is long-tossing at 120 feet.
Advice: Feliz's rehab from Tommy John surgery is going fine, although it's not yet been announced when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. We expect him to return to a major league mound late in the summer.

    • Julio Borbon has stolen three bases since he joined the Cubs last month.
Advice: Borbon hasn't been playing enough to warrant an update over the past month (he's logged more than two at-bats in a game just twice since the Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Rangers on April 19). If he can secure some playing time over the summer, Borbon will be useful in NL-only formats in the batting average and steals departments. Chicago has displayed no willingness to exercise their atrophying 27-year-old outfielder, however.

    • Josh Reddick (wrist) has been taking some dry swings but is not ready to take batting practice yet.
Advice: Reddick is eligible to return from the disabled list on Wednesday, but that's not going to happen. It's possible the outfielder might eventually require surgery, but that point hasn't been reached yet. A timetable for his return remains up in the air.

    • Sean Doolittle retired the Royals in order in the eighth inning Saturday, picking up his seventh hold.
Advice: Those of you in holds league already know Doolittle. Those of you in deeper formats should get acquainted with him as well, if you haven't already. Doolittle is 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 19/3 K/BB rate over 20 appearances. Doolittle surrendered a pair of solo homers in late-April. Outside of that, nobody has touched him.

    • Yonder Alonso went 2-for-3 with a homer Saturday in the Padres' 2-1 win over the Padres.
Advice: It was his first homer since May 3 and his fifth overall. In 2012, he didn't hit his first bomb until May 11 and his second until June 13, finishing with nine. He'll easily pass that number this year.

    • Tyler Chatwood enjoyed a successful return to the majors Saturday night, holding the Giants to one run over 5 1/3 innings.
Advice: Chatwood was making a spot start that allowed Colorado to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest. In his first start since April 29, Chatwood struck out four, walked four and gave up seven hits. Chatwood has a 2.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over three starts in the majors. He may just have forced his way into another turn in Colorado's rotation.

    • Rockies recalled RHP Tyler Chatwood from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Advice: Chatwood will make a spot start on Saturday night against the Giants. He has posted decent numbers this year at the Triple-A level but is not a great fantasy bet.

  • Fri, May 17
    • Tyler Chatwood will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado to start against the Giants on Saturday.
Advice: Originally, Chatwood was expected to be recalled to start on Sunday in place of the injured Jeff Francis. Instead, the Rockies have opted to give Juan Nicasio an extra day of rest and use Chatwood on Saturday. Chatwood has fared decently in his first two starts with the Rockies this season, and has posted a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

    • Tyler Chatwood is expected to be recalled to start Sunday against the Giants in place of the injured Jeff Francis (groin).
Advice: Chatwood tossed six shutout innings in his second start with the Rockies late last month, so it's not a surprise that he's getting the call. He's also had a great year at Triple-A Colorado Springs, posting a 3.14 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. The righty could stick around for at least a couple starts.

    • Rays recalled LHP Alex Torres from Triple-A Durham.
Advice: Torres will pitch out of the bullpen until the Rays need a starter to replace David Price, who hit the disabled list Thursday with a strained left triceps muscle. Torres had a 2.39 ERA in 37 2/3 innings at Triple-A.

    • Brian Roberts (knee) will have the sutures removed from his right leg on Monday.
