  • Morrison not in Wednesday's lineup
Logan Morrison is not in Wednesday's lineup versus the Red Sox.

Advice: He'll take a seat against left-hander David Price. Taylor Motter will play first base while Brandon Guyer will play left field and bat fifth. Today, 6:43 am
  • Smoak (knee) appears as defensive replacement
Justin Smoak (knee) served as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Smoak has been held out of the starting lineup since last Wednesday due to knee soreness. He appeared as a pinch hitter on Monday and played defense on Tuesday, so it sounds like he's getting close. Today, 5:36 am

  • Howard comes up clutch with go-ahead RBI walk
Ryan Howard snapped a 3-3 tie with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Howard finished the game 0-for-3, but did manage two walks. His second free pass of the evening would be the key one, as he drew it against Brad Ziegler with the bases loaded to push the Phillies to a 4-3 advantage in the top of the ninth inning. They would win by that final score. Veteran slugger Howard is hitting just .151/.211/.349 this season and lost his starting job to Tommy Joseph earlier this month. Yesterday, 11:34 pm
  • Athletics option INF Max Muncy to Triple-A
Athletics optioned INF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: The 25-year-old utility man became the odd-man out with Josh Reddick returning on Tuesday. He hit a respectable .257/.366/.314 with a pair of RBI in just 41 plate appearances during his time with the big league club. Yesterday, 3:37 pm

  • Moreland not in Tuesday's lineup
Mitch Moreland is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Yankees.

Advice: As promised, Jurickson Profar is making the start at first base. Prince Fielder will serve as the designated hitter. Yesterday, 12:55 pm
  • Smoak (knee) fouled out as pinch-hitter
Justin Smoak (knee) fouled out as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: Smoak has been held out of action since last Wednesday with left knee soreness. That he was able to pinch-hit indicates that he's close to returning to the lineup. Yesterday, 6:06 am
    12:10 pm @Col
  • Tommy Joseph strikes out four times
Tommy Joseph fanned four times as part of an 0-for-5 night against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Advice: The Phillies never should have let Ryan Howard take Joseph under his wing. Following a fast start, Joseph's average now sits at .234, with a .714 OPS. He should continue to start over Howard, but he doesn't look like a mixed-league option right now. Monday, 10:06 pm
  • Nick Franklin homers, drives in five for Rays
Nick Franklin went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and five RBI in Monday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Franklin was making just his second start in a week since being recalled and he certainly made it count. He doubled in two runs in the first, singled in one in the third and then took Koji Uehara deep in the seventh. While he might have earned another start or two with this performance, Franklin probably isn't going to play regularly enough to produce stable fantasy value. Monday, 8:35 pm

  • Yanks outright Davis to Triple-A
Yankees sent 1B Ike Davis outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Davis passed through waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. He has expressed a willingness to stick around as depth in the minors, but it's unclear if he's made an official decision. Monday, 1:03 pm

  • Freese plates three as Pirates beat Kershaw
David Freese walloped a three-run double in the second inning on Sunday, leading the Pirates to a 4-3 victory over Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.

Advice: It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night, but proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Freese continues to excel in the middle of the Pirates lineup, slashing .290/.369/.448 with six bombs and 30 RBI. Sunday, 7:55 pm

  • Jefry Marte hits walkoff sac fly vs. the A's
Jefry Marte hit a walkoff sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Angels defeated the Athletics 7-6 on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.

Advice: Anaheim was down 7-2 after the top of the fourth inning, but the club put up two runs in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and then won the game against Liam Hendriks in the bottom of the ninth. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols both singled, Johnny Giavotella drew a walk, and Marte drove a ball deep enough to right field to give the Halos their first win in seven games. Marte also had an RBI single on Sunday. Sunday, 4:30 pm

  • Trevor Plouffe (groin) back in Twins' lineup
Trevor Plouffe (groin) is back in the Twins' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Plouffe missed a couple games with a mild groin strain. He's at first base Sunday, as the Twins are using Joe Mauer in the designated hitter spot and again benching Byung-ho Park. Byron Buxton and Kurt Suzuki are also getting breathers, as Danny Santana and Juan Centeno are in center field and at catcher, respectively. Sunday, 8:17 am
  • Valbuena (back) 3-for-4 in return to action
Luis Valbuena (back) went 3-for-4 with three RBI in his return to action Saturday.

Advice: Valbuena had to depart Friday's contest with lower back tightness, but he didn't have to miss any starts. He's got his batting line up to .257/.357/.442 after the recent surge he's been on. Sunday, 5:16 am
  • Alvarez delivers two-run single vs. Rays
Pedro Alvarez had a two-run single as the Orioles won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader versus the Rays.

Advice: Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored on the afternoon. After a miserable start to the season, the 29-year-old has turned things around by batting .315 (17-for-54) with six homers and 15 RBI this month. The batting average won’t last, but he’s in a great spot for his power to shine. Saturday, 1:28 pm
  • Smoak (knee) not in Saturday's lineup
Justin Smoak (knee) is not in Saturday's lineup versus the White Sox.

Advice: Smoak has been dealing with some swelling in his knee this week, so he'll get another day to rest. Edwin Encarnacion will start at first base while Josh Donaldson will slide into the DH spot. Ryan Goins will play third. Saturday, 10:19 am
    12:10 pm @Col
  • Twins hopeful Plouffe (groin) will play Sun.
The Twins are hopeful that Trevor Plouffe (groin) will play Sunday.

Advice: Plouffe suffered a mild right groin strain on Thursday, but he went through baseball activities Saturday and felt good. At the very least, it appears likely he'll avoid a stint on the disabled list. Saturday, 9:54 am
  • Morneau (elbow) takes BP on field
Justin Morneau (elbow) took batting practice on the field Saturday.

Advice: It was his first time doing so since offseason surgery to repair a flexor injury in his left elbow. Morneau signed a deal with the White Sox earlier this month and appears on track to help the major league roster during the second half. Saturday, 9:50 am

  • Yanks designate Ike Davis for assignment
Yankees designated 1B Ike Davis for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for Mark Teixeira's return from the disabled list. Davis went 3-for-14 (.214) with an RBI during his brief stint with the Yankees. He told reporters that he'll consider staying with the organization if he passes through waivers unclaimed. Saturday, 8:17 am

  • Plouffe (groin) could take swings in cage Sat
Trevor Plouffe (groin) could take some swings in the cage on Saturday.

Advice: Plouffe was held out of the lineup Friday after suffering a mild right groin strain on Thursday, but he's feeling some improvement. The Twins are optimistic he'll be able to avoid a stint on the disabled list, but it depends on how he responds in the next couple of days. Saturday, 7:48 am
  • Adam Lind's homer propels Mariners
Adam Lind delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mariners a 4-3 win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: Lind's 11th homer of the year came off Trevor Rosenthal. He has five homers in his last 11 games, though he's recorded just two other hits in that span. His average has actually tumbled from .259 to .234 during the month of June. Friday, 10:26 pm

  • Luis Valbuena exits game with back tightness
Luis Valbuena exited Friday's game against the Royals with lower back tightness.

Advice: Valbuena went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored before exiting in the second inning. It's probably safe to call him day-to-day. Friday, 7:02 pm
  • Trevor Plouffe (groin) sitting out Friday
Trevor Plouffe (groin) is not in the Twins' lineup Friday.

Advice: Plouffe tweaked his right groin on Thursday. The feeling is that it's a minor ailment, but he could need a few days of rest. Eduardo Nunez had slid over to third base and Eduardo Escobar will get a start at shortstop Friday. Friday, 12:57 pm
  • Trevor Plouffe diagnosed with a groin strain
Trevor Plouffe has been diagnosed with a mild right groin strain.

Advice: Plouffe suffered the injury while trying to leg out a grounder in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday versus the Phillies. He's listed as day-to-day, but the third baseman might have to sit out all weekend to give the strain ample time to heal. Eduardo Nunez took over at the hot corner Thursday, with Eduardo Escobar drawing the start at short. Thursday, 12:50 pm
  • Tommy Joseph scratched Thursday with cold
Tommy Joseph was scratched from the Phillies' lineup Thursday due to an illness.

Advice: It sounds like the same bug that has been traveling around MLB clubhouses over the last week. Andres Blanco will get the start at first base versus the Twins. Thursday, 9:16 am
  • Trevor Plouffe goes 3-for-4, doubles
Trevor Plouffe went 3-for-4 with a double and a couple of runs scored Wednesday in the Twins' 6-5 win over the Phillies.

Advice: The Twins have to make a decision soon on what to do with Miguel Sano, and their ideal solution should be to put Sano back at third and trade Plouffe. Plouffe, though, doesn't have the same kind of trade value he did in the offseason, and the Twins like him too much to want to sell low. It'd help a lot if he could get hot, and he has gone 5-for-9 with three RBI the last two days. Wednesday, 9:25 pm
  • Morrison manages Rays' only extra-base hit
Logan Morrison managed the Rays' only extra-base hit of the evening Wednesday, finishing 1-for-3 with a double.

Advice: The Rays got only three hits all night as they were shut down by Trevor Bauer of the Indians. Morrison has bounced back from an unbelievably terrible month of April to garner some fantasy consideration in deep leagues. The former elite Marlins prospect is now 28 years old and unlikely to ever reach the potential he once had. Wednesday, 6:58 pm
  • Plouffe has two-run triple in win over Phils
Trevor Plouffe went 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Phillies on Tuesday.

Advice: The triple was the first of 2016 for Plouffe, who had four last season. The runs batted in were Plouffe's first in almost a week, giving him 22 RBI in 51 games this year. The 30-year-old is hitting .244/.267/.373 on the year. Tuesday, 10:18 pm
  • Pedro Alvarez socks two long balls in loss
Pedro Alvarez socked a pair of long balls and drove home five runs, but it wasn't enough to lead the Orioles to victory over the Padres on Tuesday.

Advice: Alvarez smacked a two-run homer off of Luis Perdomo in the fourth inning, putting the O's on top 4-3. He repeated the feat the following frame, then added an RBI single in the ninth. Alvarez finished the night 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, raising his season slash to .240/.318/.473 to complement his nine homers and 24 RBI. Tuesday, 10:01 pm
  • David Freese homers and plates three in loss
David Freese homered and drove home three runs on Tuesday as the Pirates were clobbered by the Giants.

Advice: Freese belted a two-run homer in the eighth inning and added an RBI double in the ninth, both long after the outcome of the game had already been decided. He has been a terrific signing for the Pirates this season, slashing .295/.373/.455 with six homers and 27 RBI. Tuesday, 8:51 pm

  • Rays recall Nick Franklin from Triple-A
Rays recalled INF/OF Nick Franklin from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Franklin had a brief stint with the Rays earlier this month and he's back now that Mikie Mahtook is headed to the disabled list. The 25-year-old was batting .247/.316/.388 over 58 games in Triple-A this season. He's unlikely to provide fantasy value. Tuesday, 9:52 am

  • Lind homers among three hits against Tigers
Adam Lind went 3-for-6 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Tigers on Monday.

Advice: Lind hit the home run off Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey in the fifth inning. He's now got four homers in his last eight games and 10 overall. It's been largely feast or famine -- he's batting just .243/.277/.441 on the year -- and Lind regaining his power stroke could bode well for the 32-year-old's immediate future. Monday, 9:05 pm
