    John Means (elbow) was charged with three runs over 4 1/3 innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk.

    Advice: Means struck out five and allowed eight baserunners, throwing 79 pitches (53 strikes) in his latest rehab outing. The 30-year-old lefty figures to make at least one additional rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk before returning to Baltimore’s starting rotation mix, but it’s entirely possible he’ll be deemed ready to return following this latest outing.     Giants SS prospect Marco Luciano went 2-for-5 with three RBI on Tuesday for Triple-A Sacramento.

    Advice: Luciano is hitting .303 (23-for-76) with zero homers, 13 RBI and three steals through 19 contests this season. He’s still striking out at a healthy clip, which remains his biggest obstacle to long-term fantasy relevance. It’s worth noting that the Giants have been extremely satisfied with veteran defensive standout Nick Ahmed at shortstop so far this year, so he’s unlikely to receive a call up unless injuries strike. The 33-year-old veteran stopper figures to rejoin Arizona’s injury-depleted bullpen in the coming days after missing the opening month of the season recovering from a Grade 2 left oblique strain.     Bachman (shoulder) is dealing with mid-back spasms, causing his throwing progression to be put on hold, per MLB.com.

    Advice: Bachman has been at the Angels' training facility in Arizona rehabbing from last October's shoulder cleanup surgery. It was initially expected that the righty hurler would be ready to pitch by the start of spring training, but he's instead been progressing slowly and was placed on the 60-day IL in late March.   • Undergoes thumb operation
    Alvarez (thumb) underwent surgery on his left thumb Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a torn UCL in his left thumb and he will now officially begin the road to recovery. The Mets said Tuesday that the catcher is expected to miss eight weeks of action while recovering from the surgery, likely sidelining Alvarez until late June.     Diamondbacks placed LHP Kyle Nelson on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation.

    Advice: Nelson becomes the latest member of Arizona’s pitching staff to land on the injured list. The 27-year-old lefty heads to the shelf after making 11 relief appearances this season for the Diamondbacks. He made a career-high 68 appearances last year during the regular season.     Advice: Nelson will now be sidelined for at least a couple weeks while tending to inflammation in his pitching elbow, which is never good news for a hurler. The 27-year-old had been going through a rough stretch on the mound, surrendering five earned runs over 1.1 innings in his last three appearances. It's unclear if the left-hander's stretch of poor performances had anything to do with potential arm issues or not, but he'll now at least have an opportunity to mentally reset while on the shelf.     Silseth (elbow) has been doing strengthening and plyometric activities, but he hasn't yet resumed throwing, per MLB.com.

    Advice: Silseth was placed on the 15-day IL on April 8 due to right elbow inflammation. A subsequent MRI cleared the hurler of any ligament damage, and an initial timeframe of three weeks was established for his return. However, it's not clear if Silseth will be able to meet that timeline given that he isn't yet throwing.
