• Shifts rehab to Single-A
Marquez (elbow) struck out four and allowed six hits and no walks over 2.1 innings in a rehab start Sunday with Single-A Fresno.

Advice: Marquez resumed his minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League before moving up to the Rockies' Single-A affiliate three days later. While he was knocked around a bit and gave up two home runs among his six hits, Marquez at least exhibited solid control on the night, spotting 36 of his 52 pitches for strikes. The right-hander will likely need two or three more starts in the minors to get fully stretched out before the Rockies are comfortable activating him from the 60-day injured list and inserting him into the rotation. Marquez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent May 12, 2023. Rotowire.com Today, 8:08 pm

  • Chris Paddack hit hard in no-decision on Sunday
Chris Paddack was hit hard in a no-decision against the Athletics on Sunday night, surrendering five runs on five hits in only 2 1/3 innings.

Advice: Paddack also walked a batter in the ballgame and didn’t record a single strikeout. Twice the Twins staked him to early leads in this one, and both times he gave it right back the following inning. The A’s scratched out three runs against him in the second inning, then JJ Bleday and Tyler Soderstrom tagged him for solo homers to chase him from the game in the third. The 28-year-old right-hander got just two swings and misses on 46 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll try to improve upon his 5.25 ERA and 1.41 WHIP when he squares off against these same Athletics in Oakland on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 7:50 pm

  • Throws five frames
Montas allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over five-plus innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out five during the loss to Milwaukee.

Advice: Montas rolled through four shutout frames before the Brewers finally pushed a run home in the fifth inning. He was removed after putting two straight runners on base to begin the sixth and was charged with both after Willy Adames launched a three-run homer. Montas took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Rockies on June 4 but has since been tagged with seven runs in just 6.1 frames over his last two starts. He now owns a 4.62 ERA with a 49:26 K:BB through 13 starts. Montas' next start is lined up to be at home against Boston. Rotowire.com Today, 7:48 pm

  • Takes third consecutive loss
Dunning (4-6) took the loss Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Dunning failed to complete five innings for the fourth time in his last six starts, getting pulled with two outs in the fifth Sunday after allowing Josh Rojas to hit a double and score from second on a wild pitch before walking Julio Rodriguez. While Dunning hasn't surrendered more than five hits once this season, he's had plenty of issues with the long ball, allowing 1.7 HR/9. The 29-year-old has flashed the best strikeout stuff of his career with a 10.2 K/9 this season, but his lack of depth and vulnerability to home runs makes him incredibly volatile. • Joey Estes hit hard in no-decision on Sunday
Joey Estes was hit hard in a no-decision against the Twins on Sunday night, surrendering six runs on eight hits in only 2 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: It’s really a testament to the A’s offense that Estes wound up with a no-decision here instead of a loss. The 22-year-old hurler punched out two batters on the evening while allowing one base on balls. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Royce Lewis crushed a two-run homer in the first inning and Trevor Larnach added a three-run shot in the second. Estes got five whiffs on 65 pitches in the ballgame, posting a minuscule CSW of only 18 percent. He’ll try to pick up the pieces as he carries a 5.97 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 30/9 K/BB ratio (34 2/3 innings) into a rematch against the Twins at home on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 7:40 pm

  • Fans six in win
Rea (6-2) yielded three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk over six innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Reds.

Advice: Rea allowed a run in each of the first, third and fourth innings Sunday but limited the damage enough to deliver his second straight quality start. He forced nine swinging strikes, his best total since generating 11 against the Pirates on May 13. The 33-year-old righty has been very consistent over his last five starts, posting a 1.93 ERA with a 19:7 K:BB through 28 frames. Rea lowered his season ERA to 3.29 through 76.2 innings. His next start is lined up to be in San Diego. Rotowire.com Today, 7:37 pm

  • Tosses eight scoreless frames
Gilbert (4-4) earned the win Sunday, allowing two hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over eight scoreless innings against Texas.

Advice: Gilbert generated 21 whiffs Sunday, punching out eight batters for the fourth time this season while blanking the Rangers. The 27-year-old has now gone deeper than six innings in three straight starts and has walked merely one batter across his last 33.2 innings. He's tied with Corbin Burnes and Tanner Houck for the league lead with 12 quality starts and paces MLB with 98.1 innings pitched. Gilbert is lined up for a start in pitcher-friendly LoanDepot Park next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 7:34 pm

  • Goes five innings in rehab start
Silseth (elbow) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Making the fourth start of his rehab assignment and his second in a row with Salt Lake, Silseth built up to 78 pitches. Though he threw only 47 strikes, issued three free passes and uncorked one wild pitch, Silseth's outing still represented a step forward from his last rehab start Tuesday, when he walked five over 2.2 innings. According to MLB.com, Angels manager Ron Washington said that Silseth could return from the 60-day injured list to make his next appearance with the big club, though a decision on that front will depend on how the right-hander feels physically coming out of the Triple-A start. • Kutter Crawford strikes out nine in win over Yanks
Kutter Crawford racked up nine strikeouts over six innings of three-run baseball in a victory over the Yankees on Sunday night.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander allowed just three hits and one walk on the night. He served up a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the opening inning, then kept the Yankees’ offense completely at bay until Jose Trevino crushed a solo homer in the sixth inning. They scratched out another run in the sixth as Anthony Volpe scampered home on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning. Crawford generated 16 swings and misses on 84 pitches in the ballgame — nine on his sweeper — while posting a terrific CSW of 39 percent. Now 3-6 on the season, Crawford will tote a 3.54 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and an 88/26 K/BB ratio (86 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Reds in Cincinnati. Rotoworld Today, 7:19 pm
