• Chris Flexen pitches well, but bullpen blows lead
Chris Flexen held the Astros to just one run over six innings, but didn’t factor in the decision Thursday.

Advice: Flexen pitched well, the White Sox bullpen did not. He scattered five hits while striking out six against three walks. The 29-year-old left the game with a 3-1 lead, but Chicago’s beleaguered relievers gave up the lead quickly after. Flexen gets the Dodgers next week. No thank you. Rotoworld Today, 2:04 pm

  • Spencer Arrighetti shaky in no-decision
Spencer Arrighetti allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings while not picking up a decision Thursday against the White Sox.

Advice: Arrighetti struggled with his control throughout the contest, as he issued four walks and threw 47-of-80 pitches for strikes. The right-hander was facing one of the easier lineups in baseball, and it’s another mediocre result; albeit one that is better than the seven runs he gave up over 1 1/3 against Detroit on Saturday. Arrighetti now has a 6.36 ERA, and he isn’t a recommended streamer even against the Rockies at home next week. Rotoworld Today, 2:04 pm
  • Twins designate Jay Jackson for assignment
Twins designated RHP Jay Jackson for assignment.

Advice: Jackson was tagged for three runs courtesy of a pair of homers during Thursday’s eventual loss to the Rays and has been removed from Minnesota’s 40-man roster, according to manager Rocco Baldelli after the contest. No word on the corresponding move yet. The 36-year-old journeyman reliever struggled to a bloated 7.52 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 29/22 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings (20 appearances) this season for Minnesota. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Designated for assignment
The Twins designated Jackson for assignment Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: The move comes shortly after Jackson allowed three runs in an inning of work in Thursday's loss to the Rays. Jackson cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment by the Twins last month, so he might wind up sticking around in the organization again. The club will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game in Oakland. Rotowire.com Today, 1:58 pm

  • Could face hitters soon
Senga (shoulder/triceps) threw another bullpen session Wednesday, and manager Carlos Mendoza said afterward that the right-hander's next step could be facing hitters in live batting practice, Julian Guilarte of SI.com reports.

Advice: The Mets will likely re-evaluate Senga on Thursday and Friday, but if he feels fine physically coming out of his latest bullpen session, expect him to gain clearance to face hitters. Senga has been on the injured list all season, first because of a right posterior shoulder capsule strain before he experienced right triceps inflammation in late May. Marlins acquired C Ali Sánchez from the Cubs for cash considerations.

Advice: Sánchez heads to Miami as extra minor league catching depth after spending the first couple weeks of the year with the Cubs organization at Triple-A Iowa. The 27-year-old backstop has gotten into seven contests in the majors since 2020. Rotoworld Today, 1:41 pm
  • Victor Scott II serving as 27th man on Thursday
Victor Scott II will serve as the 27th man for Thursday’s game against the Giants at Rickwood Field in Alabama.

Advice: Scott gives the Cardinals a speedy pinch-running option for Thursday’s highly-anticipated showdown at historic Rickwood Field, the oldest professional ballpark in the United States. The 23-year-old speedster posted two steals in 20 games earlier this year in his first taste of the majors. Rotoworld Today, 1:39 pm

  • Tyler Fitzgerald serving as 27th man on Thursday
Tyler Fitzgerald will serve as the 27th man for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Alabama.

Advice: Fitzgerald has gotten into a career-high 27 contests this season for San Francisco and provides the club with a versatile bench option for Thursday’s showdown against the Cardinals at historic Rickwood Field in Alabama. Rotoworld Today, 1:37 pm

  • Ryne Nelson fires seven strong in win over Nats
Ryne Nelson worked seven innings while giving up two runs to pick up a win Thursday over the Nationals.

Advice: Nelson allowed just three hits, and he struck out two while walking no one. He needed just 70 pitches to get through the seven frames, and outside of two solo homers, the 26-year-old pitched admirably. This also makes back-to-back strong starts for Nelson, as he has given up just three runs over those 13 innings. It’s worth pointing out that Washington and the White Sox were his opponents, however. Nelson will look to continue lowering his now 5.18 ERA against the Twins next Thursday. Rotoworld Today, 12:30 pm
