    • Neris blows save, Cubs down Brewers in extras
      Hector Neris blew his second save of the season in the Cubs’ win over the Brewers on Tuesday.

      Advice: Neris entered the game with a 1-0 lead and recorded two outs to open the bottom of the ninth. He then ran into trouble when he walked Christian Yelich, only to later balk and move Yelich into scoring position. Willy Adames would later single with two strikes to drive in Yelich and for the game into extras.     • Tuesday's start rained out
      Jones and the Pirates will not play the Tigers on Tuesday due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

      Advice: Tuesday's contest will be made up during a doubleheader Wednesday, and Jones will presumably pitch one of the two games. The 22-year-old right-hander owns a 3.05 ERA and 0.97 WHIP on the year, though he's allowed three earned runs in six innings during both of his last two outings.       Yandy Diaz is hitting second and playing first base versus the Athletics on Tuesday.

      Advice: Diaz has 231 plate appearances thus far in 2024, and 223 of those have come in the leadoff spot. He’s hit just .254 with a .686 from that spot, however, so Tampa Bay will move the 32-year-old down a spot in the lineup.       Valdez (3-3) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

      Advice: Valdez looked to be in for a rough night after giving up three runs on four hits in the first inning, but he settled in from there and yielded just two hits and no runs the rest of the way. That allowed him to squeak by with a quality start, though he nonetheless ended with his second straight loss. Valdez gave up eight runs over five frames against the Angels in his previous appearance, so this was a decent bounce-back despite the difficult first inning.       King allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against Miami on Monday.

      Advice: King pitched very well in the outing, but San Diego wasn't able to put its second run on the board until the seventh frame, preventing him from picking up a second consecutive victory. The only run the right-hander allowed came on a third-inning homer by Jazz Chisholm. King has given up one or zero runs in three of his past five starts and has racked up a 34:8 K:BB across 30 innings over that span. He's tentatively slated to make his next start in Kansas City.     • Moving rehab to Triple-A
      Kwan (hamstring) will have his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Columbus beginning Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Kwan went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and a walk over two games with High-A Lake County over the weekend. The outfielder is expected to play six-to-eight innings in left field Tuesday.     • Framber Valdez turns in quality start in loss
      Framber Valdez surrendered three runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Mariners.

      Advice: All of the runs scored in the first, an inning that could have been much worse if Jake Meyers didn’t cover half of the outfield to chase down a Cal Raleigh fly with the bases loaded. Valdez still gave up four hits that inning, but he allowed just two more the rest of the way. Nevertheless, he still took the loss in a 3-2 game, leaving him 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA for the season.     • King strikes out seven in no-decision Monday
      Michael King allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision in the Padres’ 2-1 victory over the Marlins on Monday.



      Advice: King allowed three hits, one walk and struck out seven. He left the game with the score tied after five innings. King’s ERA is now 4.09 on the season. His 74 strikeouts this year rank among the top 10 in all of baseball. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Royals on the road this weekend.

    • Steven Kwan will start in Triple-A on Tuesday
      According to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, Steven Kwan will start in left field for Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

      Advice: Vogt said the plan is for Kwan to play 6-8 innings in the field. If Kwan were to do that and come out feeling good, he might only need one or two more starts before the Guardians feel good about activating him from the IL.
