    • Report: Angels unlikely to trade Taylor Ward
      According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, “the Angles likely will hang onto” Taylor Ward and starters Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning at the trade deadline.

      Advice: All three players are still under team control through at least 2025 and are likely to remain with the Angels “unless they receive overwhelming offers.” Anderson and Canning staying put will keep their spots in a starting rotation secure but also keep their chances of wins low, while Ward staying in Los Angeles will also help guarantee everyday playing time but continue to see him hit in a weak lineup.       Langford went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Rays.

      Advice: This was Langford's second four-hit game over his last seven contests after he hit for the cycle last Sunday. The outfielder is 12-for-26 (.462) in that span, and he's also added a 4:6 BB:K. It's taken him some time, but it appears he's found some consistency at the plate midway through his rookie year.     • Ezequiel Tovar goes hitless yet again in loss
      Ezequiel Tovar remained hitless for the month of July after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Royals on Sunday.

      Advice: Tovar was the clear choice to serve as the Rockies’ token All-Star a couple of weeks ago, but he’s been brutal of late, going 6-for-50 with one extra-base hit, one RBI, zero runs scored and a 20/0 K/BB in his last 12 games. It’s dropped his OPS from .808 to .734. Ryan McMahon might now be the best bet to be the Rockies’ All-Star, with Cal Quantrill and last year’s All-Star Game MVP Elias Díaz also in the mix.       Advice: It's the second straight game on the bench for Schneider after he started the previous three games.       Phillips (2-0) was charged with a blown save and earned the win against Milwaukee on Saturday. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out one batter over one inning.

      Advice: With the Dodgers up 3-2 in the top of the eighth frame, manager Dave Roberts elected to call upon Phillips to face the heart of the Brewers order. The right-hander couldn't protect the lead, giving up a one-out solo homer to Christian Yelich. Phillips did get credited for the win, however, as a result of Los Angeles tallying two runs in the bottom of the frame and Alex Vesia closing things out in the ninth. This was the second time in the past two weeks that Roberts has called upon Phillips before the ninth inning in a high-leverage situation, so it's clear that the team is comfortable using him in that way. Phillips should still get the vast majority of save chances for the Dodgers, though Vesia has five saves on the campaign and is probably the leading candidate for ninth-inning duties when Phillips is either unavailable or deployed earlier in a contest.       Joe went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday against the Mets.

      Advice: Joe has been limited exclusively to a short-side platoon role at first base since Rowdy Tellez has gotten improved results at the plate, though Joe has also split time with Edward Olivares and Joshua Palacios in right field. Joe will likely continue to lose plate appearances so long as he remains cold at the dish, as he's hit only .176 with one home run, five RBI and seven runs scored since June 1 and across 74 at-bats.
