    • Shane Baz promoted for 2024 debut on Friday
Rays recalled RHP Shane Baz from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Finally, the 25-year-old right-hander will make his highly anticipated 2024 regular season debut on Friday evening against the Rangers. Baz made 10 starts at Triple-A Durham while building up his stamina, registering a 4.12 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 44/23 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings of work. He’ll probably only go five innings in Friday’s start against the Rangers, so fantasy managers should temper expectations for a victory in his first start. He should deliver plenty of strikeouts though. Rotoworld Today, 2:53 pm

    • Rays option Justin Sterner back to Triple-A Durham
Rays optioned RHP Justin Sterner to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Sterner was with the big-league club for just two days this time around, but he’ll head back to Triple-A to make room on the roster for the triumphant return of Shane Baz on Friday night. Sterner should get another opportunity with the Rays before the summer is through. Rotoworld Today, 2:50 pm
    • Continuing rehab at Triple-A
The Yankees transferred Brubaker's (elbow) rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Advice: Brubaker made one appearance with Double-A Somerset and will continue his rehab at Triple-A. The 30-year-old has been recovering from Tommy John surgery since April on 2023 and is approaching a return to big-league action. It's unclear how many outings Brubaker will need at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but it's likely he'll be back sometime in July. Rotowire.com Today, 2:37 pm

    • Trending towards return Monday
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that Paddack (arm) is doing well in his rehab program and is expected to start in Monday's series opener against the White Sox, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Paddack landed on the 15-day injured list June 25 due to right forearm fatigue. Not much of a surprise, given 2024 is the 28-year-old right-hander's first full season of pitching since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2022. Paddack is 5-3 over 15 starts with a 5.29 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB over 78.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:34 pm

    • Justin Steele throws complete game for first win
Justin Steele went the distance for his first win of 2024, pitching a two-hitting in a 5-1 game against the Angels.

Advice: The Cubs didn’t need to turn to their shaky pen this time out, as Steele finished off the Angels in just 95 pitches. He struck out seven and walked two for his first win in 13 starts this season and 18 outings dating back to last year, when he opened up 16-3 before going 0-2 in his final four turns and perhaps costing himself a Cy Young Award. Of course, it was hardly his fault that he was 0-3 this year coming into this one. His ERA stands at 2.95 after this one. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

    • Griffin Canning takes ninth loss versus Cubs
Griffin Canning yielded four runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Just five of the 15 balls in play against Canning were hit hard, but those five did produce four hits, including a homer. While Canning definitely looks better now than he did in April, he’s still been more adequate than good. One imagines he’s someone who could be made available in trade talks this month; another club could probably get more out of him than the Halos have. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

    • Jared Jones dealing with Grade 2 lat strain
The Pirates announced Friday that Jared Jones is dealing with a Grade 2 lat strain and will be shut down from throwing for the next two weeks.

Advice: The Pirates are tying to find ways to manage the 22-year-old right-hander’s workload this season, so this doesn’t change his overall outlook for the season all that much. He’ll be re-evaluated after the two weeks to determine the schedule for ramping him back up. Fantasy managers may want to plan on being without Jones for the entire month of July. • Throwing live bullpen Saturday
Winn (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session Saturday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Winn landed on the injured list June 22 due to a nerve issue in his right elbow. Saturday's bullpen is a positive step for the 26-year-old righty, but his rehab program will likely keep him out of major-league action until after the All-Star break. Winn has a 3-8 record over 12 starts with a 7.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB across 55.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:26 pm

    • Keaton Winn (elbow) to throw live bullpen Saturday
Keaton Winn (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler continues to work his way back from inflammation in his right elbow. There’s no clear timetable for his return just yet, but if all goes well with Saturday’s session he could potentially be cleared to start a minor league rehab assignment. With Winn, Robbie Ray and Alex Cobb all making progress in their respective recoveries, the Giants’ rotation is poised to get reinforcements very soon. Rotoworld Today, 2:25 pm
